Rachel may be the establishment's Horse of the Year, but I believe "Z" is the people's Horse of the Year.

How about John Shirreffs' double - "Z" doing her thing and the "B" team beating Rachel.

The announcers on HRTV explained what happened. Rachel wasn't ready today.

Great race for Zen!!
Surprised to see Calvin take Rach to the inside.....wonder what the Apple Blossom folks are now thinking....?

It looked like Mike Smith was driving a truck through rush hour in the lane. The mare leaves you speechless…between the incredible charisma pre / during and post race; she is the definition of an equine superstar.

I hope you guys and gals saw the Tampa Bay Derby today. On the backside I thought you could name the margin for Odysseus; and then he dropped back on the turn dramatically. Horses just don’t re-rally in that deep Tampa stretch like he did to win…equally bizarre  & brave performance.

That was quite a double header; two mares of that quality 20 minutes apart while Bridge Jumpers folded their parachutes. :)

BTW: Lookin At Lucky in the rebel...WOW; what a check to overcome and win...VERY SHARP!!!

Lights out exciting day for horse racing. The best Saturday action we have seen since Br Cup.

I'm flipping screens all day between horses and hoops.

thought ody was very impressive, liked how he went between horses in deep stretch, is he a little too clumsy to get a good trip at CD?

didn't think much of lookin lucky, will check out the replays Sunday.

Zen had a terrible trip , but it just doesn't matter, the two strides she takes when the race is on the line will be too much for rachael i think.

nice racing though.

On the tape counter check out about the 1:00 portion of the backside DD. When a riders backside strikes the saddle that hard; it is pretty significant imo. To fire again and lose all the ground takes some real guts. That’s race horse time as well; 1:43 flat is VERY sharp for that strip historically.

Random thought on racing trouble. Speaking for myself only; I try and stay conscious of the fact that video trouble and ”live” trouble are two different animals. In terms of severity; the actual checking / bumping etc that goes on in races is significantly more dramatic live then the replay allows our eyes to see.

Very similar to the NFL, NASCAR or any live sport. Film just can’t completely capture that extra velocity dimension the naked eye can.

I remember watching the Florida Derby some years ago when Monarchos won and noting a SEVERE bump by one of the runners in the first turn. (I had a good live angle to see it) On replay; I would have never picked that up and certainly not viewed it as significant.

Good day for our sport; record handle at Tampa / we have quality runners for 2010 / the Goodall's are in the NHC finals and Ken has improved (yet again!!!) the finest racing software known to man, woman or even...Gupta. :D

One of my good friends works at Oaklawn. I talked to him last night.
All I can say is the "Apple Blossom folks" are VERY concerned.

From a personal standpoint, I've always had my doubts about this race.
I've always believed that Jess Jackson wanted absolutely no part of Zenyatta.
And that was BEFORE Rachel gets beat and before Zenyatta was simply Zenyatta.

My guess is there will be an announcement by Jess Jackson this week.
"The Apple Blossom comes up a little too quick on the calendar
for Rachel. We had training issues with the weather in New Orleans. Would like to
thank Mr. Cella.. And I can't wait to see Zenyatta and Rachel run, but it will have
to be later in the year."

And I forgot he'll probably take a swipe at the "plastic racetracks" again too.

Sat. P-6 @ SA looked very appealing with the free spot of Zenyatta. Did not hit it, even with #12-Alphabet Cat ($75.20) in the last race. 5 out of 6 paid $150.00 I believe.

Did hit the DD & small win money on Alphabet. Located using XFIG. Lots of nice winners in the top 2, sorted on FIG.

Will be playing it again today!

Good luck today Players!

I love both of them, but seeing RA get beat by the second string was just flat out awesome!
The rivalry takes on a new look now.

The most impressive prep I thought was LAL, in his first dirt try, with trouble no less.
Seems that poly to dirt might be a very key angle to be aware of. I don't recall too many exploding go to poly, but to dirt, a few big ones. Fortunately, our HX7 has some valuable information it.

There have been a few really outstanding weekends this year.

Has there ever been a horse in history, male or female, that comes from the cheap seats EVERY race and gets the job done! Think about all the things that can happen in traffic.

Her competitive spirit is what blows me away, and she has the engine to get her there. You could bounce silver dollars off her butt. If she could talk, I bet she would tell Mike Smith to relax...and enjoy the ride!

Tears of joy and amazement from this guy.
