I had to reinstall new HTR program. I get the message "Setup cannot continue because some sytem files are out of date on your system. Click OK if you want setup to update these files for you." So I click ok and restart windows and then it gives me the same error message next time also. Am running Win 2000. This program has been on this computer before. I get the same message on my laptop and home computer.

I assume you are trying to install HTR2001 "full installation"?

Best bet is to Uninstall the previous. Click Control Panel / Add Remove Hardware / HTR2001
and uninstall it. The early versions of HTR2001 were compiled in VB5, these later versions are written in VB6, so there is a compatiblity problem with that transition that requires an uninstall and then a complete re-install if that is the case.

Also Search for HTR2001.EXE on your computer and delete it wherever you find it.

Now download the "full installation" again and try to set it up. If you get those insufferable messages, try "ignore file" or "no" to overwrite files. There has been a problem reported with the Lucida Console font that is part of the installation - better to not overwrite if it bothers you about that one.

If you are just trying to install the .exe of HTR2001 or HTR-DOS, delete the old .exe first and then try to download again. But that should not be an issue as it always prompts to "over-write old file?"

Let us know what happens. Very few users have Windows 2000, it was not an upgrade for Home PC users, but a replacement for Windows NT (network, business). Windows XP is supposed to iron out the bugs and be useful for all computers - it might benefit you to upgrade to XP - but read my article in the newsletter before you take the plunge!

I think moving to XP would be a downgrade rather than an upgrade, anyway that is not an option. When trying to install it on my home computer, it gives these errors, and I formatted the hard drive recently so I know there isn't any old version there. Yes I just downloaded the full install program. I don't think it is a Win2000 problem as I have had it on both of these computers before. There is no option to overwrite anything, if you don't click OK setup stops and if you do click OK it starts over and gives message again.

Do you have the Service Packs, SP1 & SP2, for Windows 2000?

I had downloaded and installed the service packs on my home computer, that why I had to format the hardrive. Never again.

fred4now -
Send me an email with a snail mail address to get a small package. I'll mail you an HTR2001 installation on CD or diskette that may work because it is a batch installation that places the files without the quagmire of an installation program. There will be no prompting - it just plows ahead and does the job.

Installation programs are necessary on the INternet to facilitate single file download and extraction. But they don't work for everyone. Sometimes we have to do it the old fashioned way, but it usually succeeds.

I'll mail it next week after the new update, that way you will get the latest version.
