My printer is on it's last legs. Has anyone purchased a printer recently that can print the HTR dos files? It seems most of the new printers only work from Windows. I'm looking for an inkjet or a laser.
Thanks

I have been using a HP 6L LaserJet printer for over 3 years. Love it.
Installed WinXP and still have no trouble printing from HTR.exe.
I am sure you can find cheaper printers. You may need to load HTR.exe on floppy or CDROM with a few files to try out the printing of any printer you want to look at.
Just make sure that the one you want to buy does what you want it to.

My personal printer is an HP LaserJet III (1992 vintage) ... and I love it. Since it *IS* old and beginning to show signs of failing, I just purchased another one at ebay for $50 (plus $18 shipping) to use for spare parts. (The LJ III, in 1992, retailed for over $2,000) My feeling is that a laser printer is the best route to go when you're anticipating a lot of (Black & White) printing. While inkjets are generally less expensive to purchase, they'll "eat you up" in cartridge costs. In the case of my LJ III, a $25 (remanufactured) toner cartridge will yield well over a case of paper (5000 sheets) of text (like HTR reports) documents. Depending on the cartridge and inkjet printer, $25 might only buy enough ink for a ream (500 sheets) of paper.
I'd guess that ANY HP LaserJet would work quite well for DOS and Windows printing. I've used several different (HP) models over the years and have never had a compatibility problem with respect to DOS and Windows.
Might be interesting to read what other HTRers are using and their thoughts - How 'bout it folks? What's your take?

Gimmie vote for HP laserjet 1100. Whatever you go w/ Wes, make sure it is a laser jet. It will save you $$$$ in the future w/ toner cost.

I bought a Brother HL1440 a few months ago and am very happy with it. It's fast (15 ppm), bulletproff, easy and cheap to operate (use the low ink setting to save even more), has 2Mb RAM and a resolution of 1200X800DPI. The Brother lasers have been top rated best buys for years by the PC magagines. You can find a new one for around $255 through pricewatch.com (BTW, a great place to check before buying any hardware).

Oh, NO!
Lexmark is the best printer company! Quality stuff! Just because I own stock and the company is here in Lexington, doesn't mean I'm biased. But seriously, this is IBM and IBM quality. At least buy a printer from a company that will be around for a while. For $199 they have a new printer that is scanner included. I have two Lexmark printers and never have problems printing DOS.

Lexmark is pretty good. Droped $49 on a Lexmark Z22 bubble jet for travel purposes. Not bad. If I understand KM correctly, Lexmark is the Official printer for HTR.
