There is a massive fire surrounding my home in Yorba Linda as you may have seen on t.v. My parents and my sister homes are much closer to the flames and might be lost. We are all in a hotel for now. Our townhouse is probably ok, but they told us to get out because the winds are unpredictable. My wife, son, dogs and I are safe and we got some of our stuff out including computer hard drives and laptops.

Forgive me for being out of touch for now. Will check back in when I have more news

Damnned Ken---
Everytime I read about these fires I wonder...how close are they to Ken?
What do you need? Anything at this point? You got my email. Before I could even finish telling Suze, she said "tell him we'll help him with anything he needs!"
I hope the winds shift for you!
But if you need anything just holler!!!

Bryan and I offer you anything we can. If you want to escape CA you are welcome in New Orleans as our guest. I will tell you in Aug. 2005 having to evacuate, thinking we were going back home in 2 days we were not prepared for what the next few months would bring. The first email I received was from someone we met at a handicapping contest that offered us a place to stay in Texas indefinitely. We heard from so many people that speak "horse language". It meant so much to us! This was one of the things that really made us realize the things in life that are important. How wonderful and generous people that really care can be. We were fortunate that we suffered no flooding, only slight roof damage and were able to return to our home in 7 weeks, one of the first areas to get to return. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you go through this. We know what it is to go through the uncertain times. We are very sincere in our offer - anything we can do we would love to return the many favors we received in 2005. As I said our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Wishing you the best.

Likewise I would like to echo Judy's offer. IF (hopefully that is a big IF) all is lost (heaven forbid) and you develop a need, consider Iowa. We, as well, would love to put your family up indefintely. You always have a place to stay here. Some folk don't like the winters too much, but they trully are beautiful. The economy is still chugging along, housing prices have fallen a touch, but not like other parts of the country, and we enjoy 4 true seasons.

....what would we do if such a tragedy hit? First thought is to re-establish where you are. But what if the entire area is gone....?

Door is open and the invites are on the table, if you need them Ken. Hoping that you don't. But if you do, know that we got your back!

I also sent an email question before I found out about this, along with a subsequent apology and request to disregard the first email.

These sort of catastrophes don't really hit home until you or somebody you know is affected.

Our prayers are with Ken and his family.

Consider moving to Montana! A great place to raise kids.

And, in your line of work, you can be anywhere.

Thanks Rick; just frightening pictures.

Reading about Yorba Linda in particular it came at them so fast people were left scrambling. Even the evacuation shelters were at risk at one point.

Really looking forward to Ken’s next update and were praying the news will improve.

From an email Ken sent me just a bit ago, it sounds as if they are back home safe and sound. A little rattled, but safe and sound! And although a lot was lost around his sister's house, thanks to some very brave firefighters, her house as saved!
He said he will post up more after the family gets some sleep!

Thanks for the update Donnie. I've been tuned to a LA channel and fortunately the winds lifted.
