When I first started to study this game I was fortunate enough to have been given a copy of Pace Makes the Race and was intrigued by the chapter on Tandem horses
The philosophy is simple--keep an eye on horses who have raced against each other in their last start--more often than not the beaten horse will turn the tables and prevail when they next match up
But what happens when there are multiple tandems--as is the case in the 8th race at Aqueduct on Saturday Nov 10
The guidelines to betting them in the original book were to-
1)Consider horses who were tandem to a horse that was in the top 3 TPR(total pace ranking)
2)Consider horses who were within 3.75 lengths of their focal (the horse that beat them)

I have tweaked this a bit and have been having some success when encountering multiple qualifiers by using the value odds line on Screen 4 to weed out the contenders-if the horse is a bona fide tandem and his odds are higher than his value odds its a play
Also-instead of top 3 TPR am using the top 4 qualifiers in my little screen 4 system as potential focal tandem horses

Anyway--here are the Screen 4 qualifiers in the 8th at the Big A

3 88 99 187
5 97 99 196
6 91 99 190
9 89 100 189

Next step is to go to the tandem screen--aye caramba--look at all them tandems
By following the steps listed above here are your tandem horses and the value odds and real time odds
1 vodds 11-1 post time odds 19-1
3 vodds 6-1 post time odds 5/2
7 vodds 16-1 post time odds 24-1
11 vodds 33-1 post time odds 23-1

The 3 and 11 are well below the value odds so they are tossed
The play is to bet the 1 and 7
The 7 wins easy and pays $51.50
Pay attention to those tandems!!!

I like Bart, but my real heroes are Homer Simpson and Al Bundy!
