Hi to all from a newbie. I have a favor to ask
of anyone willing to lend a hand. I am entered
in the Arlington finals for Vegas qualifying.
Would appreciate any help that I can get for
the following races -- selections -- longshots--
track bias -- etc. for Saturday Nov 10
Churchill races 3-4-9-10
Calder races 6-8-10-11
Hawthorne races 3-5-8-9
Any input would be appreciated as I'm going all
out to try to qualify for Vegas. I am not new to
handicapping but am new to contests. Would
appreciate any help on strategy, etc. I have
4 qualifying spots Me, My wife, My son, and
My son's wife..so far so good but I want to
maximize my chances..Thanks to all.

Stuball, sounds like you are well postioned for a good strike. Looks like you don't really need much help since you have all those entries. In some of the old newsletters you should be able to find some info on contest play. Best of luck!

I agree I am well positioned for a good strike
and appreciate the position I am in. I have a 5 year old database on Churchill but am in the dark
on any little things that might help for Hawthorne
or Calder.....I am considering signing up with HTR
but have a lot invested in my database both time
and money. I use FoxPro and write all my own
programs (self taught -- trial and error --
trial and error -- etc) I have developed something
I call Visual Handicapping for my own use...
Would liketo know if anyone else will be at
Arlington Trackside saturday.
Thanks for any input

Stuball ! One of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel songs - "ole stuball was a racehorse, was a good friend of mine, he never drank water, he always drank wine". Great song - good choice for nickname.
HTR members took down $270,000 in contest winnings in 2000 - 2001. That exceeds BRIS and we have 1/100 the membership. Biggest winners are Tommy Castillo and Mike Mayo. Very simple philosophy from them: never bet any horse under 9/1 - period. And it is the $30 + that get the money. If low priced horses are coming in - it doesn't mean the strategy is bad - it means the contest is now a lottery among chalk players. In any tourney with a prize of $50,000 or more - the winners will always be those that picked a few $30+ longshots. As MtKen just reported - Fr1 is the king of the longshots. There are several articles from past newsletter with more details (check June, May, April 2001 issues). Also click to the 'articles' herein and read "Getting Bullish on Longshots".
MikeDee and TomCat were part of a team that took 4th place in the largest and most lucrative handicapping contest ever held - maybe they can give you additional specific advice here.
best of luck in the tournament -
