View Full Version : Lots vs Less

I usually play MNR's night card, but had some time last evening and took a look at PEN. I noticed that in a 90-day span, the PEN starters had almost twice the number of races under their belt than the MNR starters typically have. I use the last 90 as an guide to form and consistency.
Don't know PEN that well, but either the horses are in much better shape or the purses are so miniscule that they have to run every day to eat!
While I am doing my own research -- does anyone on the board have an insight on this?
Thanks

Interesting observation Val, thanks.
Be interesting to db that and see if it is "really true" or it was just something that happened on the days you looked at it.
IF it is true, I would think that, while it might be purse sizes, it is probably more along the lines of "trainer-owner tradition and expectation". Two other things I can think of that I would put in this catagory of "tradition" are
1) the differences in workout patterns East coast/West coast horses and
2) the way the Europeans strictly train to a grade 1 whereas North American's race/train to one.
Something to think about anyway, thanks.

Haven't looked in detail but here is my guess. Pen has small purses, short fields and lots of horses are going south for the winter. MNR has lots big purses for cheap claimers full fields and trainers are probably stnding in line to run their horses there.

Val,
Can't answer your 90 day question but I do enjoy playing Pen. HTR is very good with those little piggies. My experience with these cheap over run horses is that PL1 will generally give you better pace results. The modeler should verify this for you. Best of luck.
