When I try to call up Prat in Win ME, the menu comes up, but when I try to call up a particular
card, I get an "Out of Memory" error message. I am calling up Prat from the "run" part of the Start menu in Windows. Do I need to go into DOS mode to run Prat?

Bruce,

You didn't mention if you had any other DOS programs running at the time but if you did, try running ONLY a single DOS application (HTR, TLC, PRAT, IMPACT etc) at a time and see what happens. If that solves the problem, then it's probably a function of the Vcache setting in your SYSTEM.INI file. Drop me an email and we can discuss further.

This is a DOS problem with memory as most of us have been through it - too many racefiles in the HTR folder. You must reduce the number of total racefiles in the HTR directory to allow the list box to load. Maximum on most computers is about 300 cards (3000 racefiles). HTR2001 can handle unlimited load - but not old DOS.

All downloaded HTR files are automatically saved in the c:\htrdata folder for safekeeping. So deleting from the working directory (C:\htr) is smart housekeeping anyway.

Done, and it worked .
Next question: How do I restore the files from the HTRdata folder so I can handicap those
older races and where do I keep the txt files for the charts?

In Prat #3, presume the three figures represent F1, 2nd call (EP) and final fraction with the total over at the right.

In Prat, #4, the three figs represent the three Impact ratings...

Thanks,
Bruce.

Bruce,

The answer on where to keep chart text files, is any place you want. You can create a subdirectory under C:\htr or more than one. You can make them by track name like C:\htr\lad

The trick is to figure out what you want to do then do it. It just has to work for you. Don't keep them in c:\htr cause it gets too clutered.

The trick for getting files out of the C:\htrdata is looking at the file names and understanding how the wildcard character work. You also need to figure out what races do you want.

Do you want all the races from one track? ie FG*.htr
That will select all the races, results, charts, and most any other file for the FG for all dates.

Do you want all races in MAY 2001? ie *05??B.htr
That will select all races in the month of May 2001. Just remember that the C:\htrdata file names don't include the year so basically you can only keep a years worth of data in your htrdata directory.

Just remember that the * stands for one or more characters. The ? stands for one character.

Open windows explorer and use the Find/Search function. Play with it till you figure out how to get it to do what you want it to do.

If you have any trouble with it post an example of what you are trying to do and somene will be able to help you.

Bruce,

If I recall correctly...

Prat 3 will use Brohammer type distance ratings in an impact format....ie
Espeed=F1 in Impact terms (120 vs 58.55 feet per second)
Attack=Turn Time (F2), not EP
Resist=F3 (final fraction). 2Furlongs in 6F and 8F races, 3Furlongs in 7F and 9F races.

Prat 4
Espeed=Early speed to the turn.
Attact=True turn time around the turn.
Resist=Always the final furlong.

Now how I use pRat 3 and 4. Sometimes in turf races if I'm looking for a late runner and want to look at more than just a 1 furlong late run, I will use pRAT 3 to see how they run for 2 or 3 furlongs late....

Hope this helps.

I'm testing my two-step method using Prat 2 & 3. Cramer figs as contender selection
and Velocity figs to find high-odds contenders. Bet depends on number of
legit contenders in the race (e.g. turf races that are wide open, I might demand 8-1
or even 10-1, but 6-horse dirt races where I end up with 3 contenders I might
accept 4-1).

I want to see if
a) it works with HTR. (or is even better because the figs are improved)
b) it saves me any time.
