I love the new scratch function -- I don't know if Equibase supplies this information to HDW as i can't find it on Equibase.com, but..... would it be possible to post where the turf rails are being placed for each track before the races.

Its frustrating because I have to go to each track's site and some tracks -- Monmouth and some others for example -- don't post that information.

Andy,

I'll look into it.

I do know that there are some tracks for which the information is simply not easily available - the rails for Arlington Park, for instance, only appear to be available, before the races are run, inside the race conditions. Parsing the race conditions to extarct this data, and trying to stay on top of changes in the way it is and can be written out, is an extremely undesirable way to retrieve and distribute information.

I'm reticent to publish this type of data if I am not confident that the data is relatively complete, accurate and timely.

Stay tuned till I check it out.

Word of the day from Ron

reticent \RET-ih-suhnt\, adjective:
1. Inclined to keep silent; reserved; uncommunicative.
2. Restrained or reserved in style.
3. Reluctant; unwilling.

Now since Ron is never reserved or uncommunicative or restrained or reserved in style, I am guessing he is reluctant and unwilling to do this. :p

Having to trust this information to make a bet, I depend on the accuracy so I would say Ron is doing the right thing!

Thanks for all you do Ron!

Jim,

Perhaps you're thinking of "taciturn."

Clint Eastwood, in his spaghetti westerns, plays a taciturn drifter. "Silent" Tom Smith, the trainer of Seabiscuit, was taciturn.

Anybody like Blondie who can deliver a line like ""There are two kinds of people in the world, my friend. Those who have a loaded gun and those who dig. You dig!" is not reticent, though he was definitely taciturn.

Back to rails. After looking at the matter, I'm not inclined to publish the info we have. It is incomplete and the lack of rail data could easily be interpreted as no rail rather than "who knows" or "the track does not report it." It troubles me enough to not publish it for the time being. I may change my mind though.

Thanks for looking into it Ron,

I owe Monmouth Park an apology. The information for that track is indeed posted on its home page.
