View Full Version : In Racing - What are you thankful for?

Yea, its kinda corny but somebody had to do it.

1. I'm thankful I had no money in an IRG account.

1a. I'm thankful I own no Youbet stock anymore (I did at one time).

2. I'm thankful that all our customers (HTR and all the the others) still feel they're getting a good enough value after all these years to still be our customers. None of us take your business for granted.

3. I'm thankful for the critcal eye our customers cast upon all that we do; it invariably makes our products better. (Well, to be fair, there were a few boneheaded criticisms but I've given my share of boneheaded responses so I guess we're even.)

4. I'm thankful I've had the opportunity to meet many of you in person, both at our office and at the yearly Las Vegas shindig. In particular, several go back over 10 years, back to the beginning at the Stardust: Ken Massa, Ernie Logsden, Tommy Castillo, Wes Burquest, Tom Walters, and the master vintner Gabby.

5. I'm thankful Ken Massa took a chance on a couple of guys working in a converted garage in Las Vegas and decided to lauch a new program, HTR, feeding it a diet of HDW data. It was not inevitable. (Ditto for Dick Mitchell)

6. I'm thankful you can still go to Keeneland on a beautiful spring day, enjoy the surroundings, watch the horses run, and not be surrounded by slot machines and poker tables. May this never come to be.

7. I'm thankful for the internet and broadband, so we don't have to F^&% around with the old BBS, 14.4 modems and Bananacom anymore. Ernie probably agrees with me on this

Eloquent, pertinent, and timely with a dash of humor. Genuine Ron Tiller.

Thanks for providing top of the line data and responsive service. With all the problems in the industry and all the challenges of handicapping, it's nice to have a few things in horse racing that can be depended upon. You and Ken certainly top that list.

Hopefully, this time next year your list will as long or longer. The best to you and Ken this holiday season and wishing you both good health, good fortune, and great success in 2008.

It's easy to reach for the wrong end of the stick in this game with the politics, greed and tragedies that line the page.

I'm grateful for the splendor and majesty of the sport, the thrill of the mutuel chase and certainly the dedication and dependence of Messrs. Massa and Tiller, without whom the courtly manner and wisdom of this forum would vanish.

Understanding that you don't have to win everything you bet to do ok.
Understanding that you DON'T have to win it ALL today.

Nbr 7 from Mr Tiller's list is a fast closing third to the above!

I had forgotten the old dial-up stuff.

:)

Best to all on this board for a safe and peacefull holiday.

Things I am thankful for?

Life, love and laughs.

The friendships, the challenges, the camaraderie found here at HTR is a strong 2nd. If I were forced to choose one site, one software, one extended family.....

I am also thankful for Ebay.....:D

All the Best to all the Best!!

nice thoughts thanks for posting, here is one i thought would fit this thread

In January of 2002, a commerical aired during the Super Bowl telecast - one time - never repeated. Everyone who saw it was very moved, but because it was never shown again, it almost became an urban legend and some people didn't believe it actually occured. That happened because there was no link to it on YouTube, etc., and there was no way to prove the commercial existed and for many years, people wondered about it as it withheld from the public viewing.

Click the link and scroll down to the video window to play this gem from Budweiser that was quiet tribute and moment of gratitude for those that gave their lives on 9-11 by the Clydesdales. There is an explanation of it as well. I had to click the PLAY button twice to get it to run.

A very hardy "yes" I have many things and people in my life to be thankful for,and with Ron's post above I'm reminded that there are many things that I should be thankful are no longer around 14.4 modens and rotten bananacom dial-up connections and the old HTR tech support line that was replaced by all the good people on this bbs "a very fine job of exchanging information done by one and all"......Happy Thanksgiving.....<ernie>

I am just Thankful.........simply Thankful.
