Article at:http://www.drf.com/news/article/90209.html Coincidentally, I had lunch yesterday with someone who was there, and in addition to raving about the facility, he described the contest as very good, considering that it was their first ever.

In the credit where credit is due category, the drf's site has up to date results of all of the recent contests:http://www.drf.com/nhc/2007/qualifiers.html In fact, the site is so current that it relflects the fact that after qualfifying this past weekend at Aqu for a second time, Paul Shurman opted for that spot, which moved good handicapper and all around nice guy Rich Nielsen from Brisnet up the necessary notch to qualify in the LaD pk4 contest.

Great link Mel and great job by the DRF to keep this up to date!

Good luck to you and all of the other "Team HTR" members in Vegas!

The NTRA is setting a terrible precedent. I know Paul Shurman, and I've spoken to Rich Nilsen. Both are good guys and are deserving of qualifying. I am sure that there was no wrongdoing by either of them here. However, the NTRA should not allow someone to choose which qualifier they will represent. It's clear that PAUL qualified at LAD before he went on to finish 2nd at AQU. It's not fair to the player that finished 4th at AQU ( and no it wasn't a friend of mine) and it certainly doesn't set a good precedent. By their ruling, If I go to another tournament and qualify again, I could decide to sell my spot to the person that finishes one spot behind qualifying or I could give it to a friend who finished 7th at the Hollywood park tournament.

This issue is a triple edged sword and if there is going to be an official ruling it should be across the board (no pun intended). Having the option to decide which qualifer to choose if one is good/lucky enough to qualify multiple times can have good or bad ramifications. Sure one can "sell" their other qualifer(s) to the person in 4th place or accept one qualifer over the other to qualify a friend, relative or beard finishing fourth. Choosing the later is potentially more profitable because a friend, relative and definitely a beard will be more financially generous than the stranger who finished fourth. But one can also use the option to decide what is more personally beneficial. I live in New York but if I qualified first at Arlington Park and somewhere else later in the year I would choose the other qualifying site if I had the option. The reason is that Arlington Park only offers round trip air from O'Hare airport. I would have to pay round trip air from New York to Chicago and possibly for a hotel room if my outbound flight is early on Thursday. If that other site was the upcoming December 1st Twin Spires contest I would choose that over Arlington Park or any other site other than NHCQualify.com (if given the option) because Twin Spires offers round trip air for two. Other examples that would be more personally beneficial are the recent Red Rock contest that offered no airfare and ALL NHCQualify.com contests that offer NO team prizes.
