If you go into Add/Remove programs, do you have any Adobe there?
Also why did you need 8? If it was just for a latest/greatest thing, try re-installing 7.

Without seeing the actual problem, this is the best I can find.

Gambler,
If all else fails use the restore function to go back a couple of days. That should get you back to where you started before installing Adobe 8.

Nothing seems to remove it, but the restore did take 8 away. My version is Adobe 7.07. I would like to try and reinstall it but i cant find that version. Does anyone know where i can find that version? Everything else on my comp it working ok. So i guess Adobe 7.07 is still working. I really not sure what all it does.
Thanks

Are you talking about Acrobat Reader or the full version of Acrobat?
Rick
21st April 2007, 10:31.45 AM
You can get earlier versions of the Adobe Reader here:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html
You will find version 7.09 there under XP.

Wrong again. My adobe doesnt work. I cant look at Bris PDF files. I have to remove something in the registers. Circuit City will do it for $60. Ill have them do it.

Hold on a minute before you pay them $60 for edit one Registry entry.
Do you have Adobe in your programs? When you click on it does it come up?
Can you download a PDF and then open it in Adobe?
Are you just missing the link to open it in IE?
I fix that one all the time here at work.
Let me know,
Jim

The registered version of SpyBot had an option at the bottom left where you could remove uninstall packages from the registery; the ones that won't work or are out of date.
We used to use that a few years ago to remove the HTR2001 uninstall.

Which version of Windows are you using?
njcurveball
23rd April 2007, 03:32.46 PM
Ok, I am confused, you used the HTR link to go to the Adobe page?
OR did you get a file from there?
Also, did you save the Adobe Install file on your C drive?
It sounds like you definitely have an install that is corrupted and you need to get that off your PC.
Also, under Program Files on your C drive, do you see an Adobe directory?
And what version of Windows do you have?
DO you have XP with Service Pack 2?
Version 8 looks like it needs Service Pack 2. So if you tried to install that and it didn't work, that may be the problem.

You may need to use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility first.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml
Then download and install it.
I am betting Circuit City will simply use a Registry Cleaner to take out the entry for the bad install.
They have lots of stuff like that in shareware and try before you buy, Below is just one of many sites.

I would suggest you try the link Jim gave you first.
At least it is free.
If that don't work let us know.

I downloaded one program and when i went to use it it said i could use it on a trial bases or purchase it now. So i deleted it. I never used share ware. Are they free or do you buy them? i just picked one. as there was a lot of them.
Rick

Try the top link first. It is suppose to be a MS utility.
If that one doesn't work then try something else.
You said you were not able to download version 7.09 of the Adobe Reader.
You should try downloading that again and run it and see if it will fix the problem.
You could delete the directory with Adobe Reader in it but you still need to remove the uninstall notice from the registry. Maybe that top link Jim provided to the Windows Instaler CleanUp Utility will do the trick. Maybe it won't.

I would suggest cleaning up first.
Something happened with your install before and that caused some registry entries to be written.
The Windows Installer Clean up tool is from Microsoft.
Download MISCUU2.EXE to a directory on your hard drive.
If you don't already have one, I suggest creating one called DOWNLOAD.
Then run and install it.
When it runs you should see an entry for Adode Reader at the top. I have 7.0.8.
Select It and delete it.
p.s. As for the 2nd link with all the shareware, yes stay away from it if you aren't comfortable.

I downloaded it to my desktop. Then I ran it. I didnt see Adobe or anything when it was done. I then did the same thing over with the same results. I then went into my control panel and tried to delete adobe. Still get that error message. I have a number i got somewhere for Adobe. Ill call them in the morning. I truly appreciate all your help, but by now you are probably quite flustrate, because nothing i seem to do works and Im not able to help you much because of my poor comp skills.

Hmmmm,
At the very top where it says Installed Products, you do NOT see Adobe?
Yet you DO see it in Control Panel. Do I have that right?
AND what version of Windows are you running? What Service Pack?
If you do not know, find the Windows Key, hold it down and hit the Pause/Break key. Mine says
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2

This is what I would do, and it is a lil advanced.
I would go into the Registry and look for the Adobe Key under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader
and I would delete that.
Of course, I would back up the Registry first.
That is a lil advanced, so I understand if you want to call Adobe to see what they say.

You had the solution Jim I was just not smart enough to do it. I downloaded windows installer clean up to my desktop. Then i clicked on it to execute it. That was all I done. I thought when i done that is would run and i was done. I called adobe and they refered me their home page any some possible solutions. Nothing was working. Their last one was to install windows installer clean. I thought hell i done that. Then when i read to go to start programs and run it, I realized i never done that. I then done what you told me and then downlosded abobe 7.09 and all seems to be ok.
Once again thanks for all the help.
