Ken, Ron and anyone playing Tampa today…
03/17/2007 Tampa Race 8 for example #2 “Autobahn Girl”.
Any horse exiting this “bastard dist” of @ 8f Dirt from Tampa has some funky figures.
This includes the following races… (2007 only)
• 02/17 R# 8
• 02/25 R# 9
• 03/13 R# 8
• 03/15 R# 2
• 03/15 R# 8
• 03/16 R# 2
I haven’t been following Tampa until today so I can’t shed any light on this. Unlike some @ distances, there are fractions in the charts and so few "@" on the dirt this one fortunatly does not come up often.

Ken,
Is this a question for Ron?
These were some of the better Tampa horses and they will be shipping out soon.

I'll leave it to Ron and Jim Cramer to discuss the figures. I couldn't find any horses from Sunday that exit that @8.0D, can you post a couple of examples from the PPs. Did PL-5 select those lines? Normally it will skip the goofy ones. Looks like a situation similar to the infamous @7.0 at KEE.

Ken,
No, as far as I could tell paceline-5 did skip the aberrant lines every time.
The dates / race #’s are listed in the first post. 6 races total, a good 50+ horses and they weren’t the bottom claimers, so these horses will show up at tracks we play.
No biggie…I would be curious to see an 8f dirt race from there. They can’t have 5 jumps to the turn unless their using an alternate finish line. Weird?

Dan, i see the dates of the races that were run with @8.0D from your first post, but didn't have any PP lines to look at.
Oh wait, there she is - Autobahn Girl - ran in the 10th race (not 8th) on Saturday. She shows a lowly "06" Cramer speed rating for that a8.0D race, normally runs all her races > 70 figure, so definitely you have found a bug and a good guess is that those races are longer than a normal mile and appear super slow on paper.
Good catch Dan, thanks, we'll await Ron Tiller's reply after he consults with Jim Cramer.
PL-5 ignored it so all the ratings were unaffected, but if that race happened to be one of her best efforts, we would lose the chance to compare it.

Yeah, the numbers that got published on the @8 F races got garbled on that day. These numbers are not permanently screwed up; they have been fixed. The failsafes that prevent such numbers from going into the files broke down that day. Sorry guys.

Thanks Ron & Ken for your usual direct approach.
However Ron, your excuse is simply unacceptable.
Considering most HTR customers lost untold thousands due to this error I feel an all expenses paid trip to Tuscany should be appropriate restitution. :D

To wrap this up…
The @ 8f does not use an alternate finish line.
Side note: I’m probably on my 10th e-mail to Gulfstream this year alone concerning timing issues. Still yet to receive my first reply.
I e-mailed Tampa on this @ distance this morning and Margo replied in less than 30 minutes. Not quite HTR / HDW customer service :) , but it does point out a significant contrast in respect for their cliental.

Now you have me curious, is the dirt track 1 mile? How does the starting crew know where to place the gate for this about distance?
Doesn't seem to make sense unless a chute is involved?

I don’t think they do know Jim, with any consistency…
I admit I’m at a loss of even why they are attempting it. Maybe someone who plays Tampa often can shed some light on this.
What do I know…I’m a good 20 minutes away!!! :D

Well there goes any chance of accurate fractional times. :-(
I will hope to see the day when they measure speed in MPH at each call. That eliminates all of the guess work.
A run-up of 70 yards compared to 110 can make a difference in the quarter time. Yet each horse can be traveling at exactly the same speed.
Workouts as well. I guess it is "job security" for the clockers. But put the saddle cloth with a chip on the horse. Have them start at a designated point and simply gauge the MPH.
This is a rather large culture shock and I am sure the industry will be breeding great-great-great-great-great-great grandsons of Seattle Slew before they even consider this.
