You may have put this in other threads, but can you give some detail here on the specs?
Which version of Vista? Do you have a 5400 RPM Hard Drive or the faster one? Dual Processors? Christmas Tree Air Freshener?
Inquiring minds want to know! Especially those of us who are in the market for a new one.
thanks,
Jim

It an HP Dvt2000 with Intel Core2Duo T7200 chip with 2Gig of Ram, 128MB NVida video, Windows vista home premium. It a 14.1 inch xbrite screen with 120Gig hard Drive at 5400RPM.
I was not too thrilled about going to vista at this point becuase of possible conflicts with my current programs and this fear has come true. I am having problems with some formulas in my Access program that my programmer is working on.

Well it looks like Oracle is only going to support the richly priced Vista Business. I wouldn't recommend you putting big bucks in an upgrade to that, but I wonder if that would solve any of your problems?
Vista is definitely an "in your face" release. I asked the guy at Best Buy if they had ANY machines with XP and he said NO! SO have they opened the boxes and upgraded them all? Or have they sent them back (too expensive for me to think they did this.).
I know they could not have turned over the entire store stock in this short time. Talk about anti-trust laws. Bill Gates should be sued by Microsoft for killing XP with no trace of the body!

Jim,
I appreciate your concerns about being forced to by Vista. Many businesses are re-imaging their new desktops with XP to avoid Vista for now.
If you are replacing a computer that is currently running XP, you should be able to legally move that copy to a new machine (if the old machine will no longer use that copy). It should be as simple as 'upgrading' fron Vista to XP. You should ask the tech people where you plan to buy the computer about any hadrware incompatabilities.

I am even having problems with the download cart on htr? I definitely would not recomend Vista to anyone. You are having all these problems because Microsoft wants you to upgrade from Office 2003 to office 2007. On the plus side, I can run 2 youbet video, htr2, wager pad, real time stock charting program, access and 3 browser screens without a problem with my new configuration but Vista is definitely not worth the box it came with.
Let me know if I can be of anymore help, I can send you the exact specs and prices if you are comparing.

Is there a solution?

If you are trying to use the download cart, it requires that you have Java installed.
This is from HDW:
Troubleshooting
1. In order to run properly, this applet requires either the Microsoft Virtual Machine or the Sun Virtual Machine Version 1.4 or higher. Netscape 6 and up come with the Sun Virtual Machine; Internet Explorer may not have a virtual machine installed. In Internet Explorer, you can verify which virtual machine(s) you have by clicking on Tools | Inernet Options | Advanced. Scroll down about half way. There will be an entry for Java(Sun) if you have the Sun Virtual Machine. The checkbox below this entry will tell you the version (e.g. 'Use Java 2 v1.4.1_2). If you have the Microsoft Virtual Machine installed, there will be an entry for Microsoft VM. If the checkbox below this labeled 'JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled' is checked, your computer is set to use the Microsoft Virtual Machine. If you have both, and Java(Sun) is checked, Java(Sun) will be used, regardless of the Microsoft VM setting.
2. If you are using the Sun Virtual Machine, before you can download, a window will pop up labeled 'Password Needed - Networking'. You need to type in your username and password a 2nd time in order to proceed with the downloading. However, if, when you initially logged on, you checked the 'Remember my password' checkbox, you will not be prompted a 2nd time. With Microsoft Virtual Machine, you will never be prompted a 2nd time for your username and password.
3. If you do not have a virtual machine installed, you have an older version of the Sun Virtual machine, or you are having problems with the Microsoft Virtual Machine, you can get the most recent Sun version at http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. Just follow their instructions.
4. If you need help with any of this, you can contact us at HDW at 502-570-0333. Please remember, if you are having trouble using the Download Cart, you can download files 1 at a time by going back to the lists of files, right clicking on the file you want, choosing Save AS and then selecting the folder where you want to download the file. Yes, it is cumbersome, but it works in a pinch.

Ok here's what I did:
Confirmed Java 1.6 installed
Tried to download track profile for BM and got the following:
unabletoopen Fileforwriting java.io.filenotfoundexception:c:\htr\bm1mtmb.htr
Under tools it does show Sun Java console and under internet options advanced is shows:
use JRE 1.6.0 for <applet> (requires restart)

I don't use the download cart. I use a download manager; Reget Deluxe.
It is much quicker than the cart.
Two tricks to using it: 1) you must add the extensions pdf and htr to the filter list 2) you must add http://htr.horsedata.com to the Site Manager and include you login info.
I like it cause I can download a whole months worth of racefiles, results, charts and comma delimited charts in less than 10 minutes.

Where can I find the program "Reget Deluxe"?
More important will it work with VIsta?
I am surprised no one else has or had this problem.

http://deluxe.reget.com/
They offer 30 day trial and have two versions. The Jr version should also work but I don't remember trying it with HTR before they upgraded me to the Deluxe version many years ago.
I use the toolbar add-on with IE that has a Download All button. I open a page of files and click on the download all button.
I am using a MS trackball that uses IntelliPoint software that allows me to set it where it "Automatically moves pointer to the default button in the dialog box" which puts the curson on the right option after I click on the download all button. Doesn't mean much when you are just downloading the files for the day but it is great when you are downloading 2 weeks or a months worth of files.

hey Mr Posh,
just a hunch
If you restored your C:\HTR folder from a CD written by your old system,
THEN your C:\HTR folder is likely to be READ ONLY
if YES, then using Explorer or My Computer, uncheck the Read Only box.

Duane,
Thanks for the suggestion b ut I downloaded it direct from the website.

I got the exact same error with I.E. with Vista.
Here's the easy solution, use Firefox, it works.

If doing individual downloads under Vista is anything like previous versions of Windows files with names like aqu1ytmb.htr get downloaded with a name like aqu1ytmb.htr..zip.
That is using IE to download.
Use OPM advice and use Firefox or.
Open Windows Explorer and click on Tools, Folder Options, View, and make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.
You can also click on File Types and create a new extension for HTR and associate it with HTR2.exe.

Since we are on the topic, when I open my htrdata folder it is completely empty although I have downloaded a couple of days into the htr folder.

Is it on C:\?
Any place else and it comes up empty.
That means your working directory has to be on that drive also.
