Found a couple of real handy softwae programs Pop up Stopper and Mail washer

Pop up stopper- stops those annoying pop-up ads that some web sites are starting to use when you vist them. This works fine you can turn it on and off if you want to and when you want to open up a second window you just have to do a Ctrl Shift then click. Best of all it's free Check it out at:

Mail washer is a program that you run before you check your email, lets you see what is there before you go and get it. If it is spam not only can you just delete it, but the software can send a bounce message to the sender so that they think that your email address is no longer a good address, and maybe their program that sends the junk will remove your email address from their list.

It also add's the sender to a blacklist where future emails are bounced and deleted. Of couse these guys rarely use the same name twice so tihs may be of little value. Unles you happen to have some one harassing your email, then this might help. You can also review the content if you want to (if you can't figure out if it is spam from the sender name and subject).

This one I really like as it gives you away to get back at these guys who are sending this junk, maybe I can fake'm out! This is also free but the developer is aksing for a donation if you like his product. Check it out at:

Mike.....thanks for the tip on those.

BTW, mailwasher insists on trying to use outlook express as my mail browser. Assume I have that as an e-mail default somewhere. Anybody have any idea where that is stored??

George-
on Explorer look under tools - internet options - programs. I don't use outlook either but I put my email program in there that I use. M_washer knew whicih one I used right off when I installed it maybe it gets it form there.

Determined that mailwasher does not currently work for HOTMAIL, YAHOO, AOL mail.
Nice concept and works great on "normal" mail accounts.

I use AOL so out of luck for now.

I had to turn off Pop Up Washer when clicking on email notification links back to here. The program thinks it's a pop up window! Oherwise, great little programs.

Take a look at the settings. I set it to beep when it stops a pop up. If it beeps or stops something that you want to run just hold down the ctrl and shift keys while you click your mouse on the link. Over rides the pop up stopper and is easy to do after you get the knack of it.

You're right only works on your real email and not the hotmail type emails. I think he is working on a version that will work on web based email accounts though.
