Well it use to be Mountaineer could run a whole card of double digit winners at you with only the featured 9th being won by the favorite.

I dont know what has happened there, but now one or two bombs a week is normal. For HTR Users, try your favorite selection criteria using only the top 4 K horses.

My count has the top 4 K winning the last 24 races in a row there. This doesn't seem like the way it use to be as other years September would be a fertile time for shippers and those horses would be some nice prices.

If you want a solid contender selection scenario here, I would suggest using the top 4 K horses with the top 4 Average Pace horses (many duplicates), which would give you about 5 horses per race and a hefty win% for them.

I was watching the card last night and I do not remember seeing so many great trainers on a MNR card. I think the good trainers are seeing the opportunity to cash in on those great slot driven purses. Does that make sense  ?

Makes mucho sense to me Zaf.....same story at PRM....has slacked off a little now as we are cutting purses back, but the big guns come in for the big purses....have even seen Baffert strolling the grounds!! Money will do that to a trainer!

I've been watching a lot of baseball, and not following Moutaineer as closely. I know a few years ago Wayne Catalano came in and was winning close to 50%. About a month later, his horses were still going off as favorites, but losing big time.

It was a good $$$$ time betting against him, especially since a lot of them were drop downs and short prices. Most experienced players will tell you that you can make a lot of money when you have an opinion against a favorite.

I am always amazed a trainer like Bernie Flint doesn't run more when he wins so much there. I think the "old boy" network reaches out when an out of towner gets a lil too big for his britches.

From a money standpoint, I cant see why a guy like Gill or Englander doesn't claim a lot and run a lot more there. With many of the claiming fields, you can claim a horse one week and make ALL your money back and then some the very next week.
