OPM left a message on the General Forum requesting information on the upcoming South Coast tourney, i tried to move it here but accidently deleted his post.

I got the little Coast newsletter and it mentions that the South Coast contest is being held the Thursday and Friday before the Preakness (May 18-19). No mention of contest fee or structure. Doesn't sound like it is a major event for them. No further info on the contest websites either =

Wow!
This makes it 8 big money toruney in Vegas each year(9 if you count the HIlton). It will be good when each of these are worth $1million each.

They'll be lucky to get $200,000 in the total pot for that SCoast tourney (500 entries). No promotion at all so far, i guess they'll wait until the Orleans to throw it at us.

A two-day tourney that does NOT include the Preakness day cards, what were they thinking!?

All the tracks go shallow the weekdays preceeding the Derby and Preakness. The best horses with large fields are saved for the Saturday to maximize handle. Looking at last year on the same Thurs Fri dates:

AP - about 6 horses per race of the cheapest variety
BEL - averaged about 6.5 horses per race both days
CD - had surprisingly low field counts (avg = 7) and most were maidens or cheap claimers
CRC - dark Thursday, ran all the dogs and 2yr maidens on Friday
GG - OPM has more kids than they have horses
HOL - 5-6 horses avg. except a few turf and Mcl
LAD - pretty good, about 8 horses average, might be the best shot for bomb
LS - ran at night

PIM - ran good card Thursday, great card Friday (Pimlico Special and Black Eyed Susan day), but this is their key week of the year and put the racing secretary into overdrive, so the entire tournament may depend on it.
