I pulled my previous post after thinking it over and looking at the pool prices. Wolfsons had no control over what happened. It was Jerry Bailey that solves the mystery.
I was reminded of "Shoe's Last Ride" which took place at SA in the 1980's. I was there and remember clearly that he was severely overbet and the other horses were huge overlays. Shoemaker's horse finished 4th and the payoffs were wild.
Miesque's Approval $99 Win price was really one of those rare opportunities that come along when the public gets exhuberant - such as the final leg of the Triple Crown when a horse has won the other two. With Bailey's final mount, people might have figured the race was a setup for him and wanted a souvenier or get in on the memorabilia.
A $$ at 45/1 has to be one of the best overlays opportunities of the year and won't come along again until Rafael Bejarano retires!
