Strange Result SA-2

SA-2 on Sunday (Jan 8) had an unusual result.

There was a dead-heat for 3rd.
And there was a DQ of the winner.

What a mess for logistics and payoffs.

This means the 2nd place finisher became the winner and the 2-3 place finishers were moved up and now tied for the Place money. The original winner was knocked out of the superfecta down to 6th.

Our small Result file has the winner and its prices correct, but got jumbled on the 2-3 finishers and the exotics.

Download the Chart though and everything is correct in the visual. If you export this race, be sure to use the Chart file and the data will be fine. The 'robot' will handle the race ok in terms of the actual winner and win price, but might pull a blank on the 2-3 finish. Exotics are not used in the 'robot'.

this is a great sample race for me to put in a plug for adding fields to the export to deal with dead head and DQs.

the current Xfin and nAFIN values work most of the time but a new field DHposition would simplify the revisions for my data base.

Consider:

A. Dead Heat position: 0=none, 1-2-3-4
---but ONLY one new field. That is, accept the RARE triple dead heat will be wrong data instead of adding a second Dead Heat field to cover the triple dead heat.

B. Nine fields for WPS payoff with Win-Plc-Shw report for ALL three
B.1= WWpaid, WPpaid, WSpaid
B.2= PWpaid, PPpaid, PSpaid
B.3= SWpaid, SPpaid, SSpaid

Both of these are minor issues but if export is changed then please consider using the above.

I feel extra fields for the Exoctic dead heat pay off are not needed.
That is, a lot of extra data for the few Dead Heat races. However,
the WPS is only three extra fields and some ROI reports would be more correct with being able to control using or ignoring the dead heat races.

Not a bad idea Duane, thanks for the suggestion and it will be work into a future update. I mentioned that I did not want to change the HX4 in the Feb upgrade, but will do it for the seminar version in June.

Ron is working on a new combination file for us = Chart + Result data. I'm sure the dead heat and DQ flags will be involved along with the correct payoffs in those cases. His new file may be exactly what you are looking for with the added detail and he promises it will be text delimited for immediate parsing by db users. That's another item for the seminar that should advance our research. Mike and Donnie will get beta versions asap for using in their presentations - so we hope to see you at the Gold Coast this summer.

The pp's contain a marker for the DQ in the trip note. For example, in the 1st at AQU on Wed (Jan 11) horse #5, 7th line down, trip note shows "DQ4" = was disqualified and placed 4th in that race. I do not have a provision for the DH in the pp's though, because in the pp's it doesn't matter in terms of calculating the velocity or PAC and PER as the BLF=0 in any case.
