Does anyone know how many unique fields(columns) there are for all of the *hx*.txt files combined?
Thanks

boundry, welcome!
That would take quite an effort to count them all, but definitely more than the 256 allowed by Access for a single table.
What are you combing for? Every possible permutation of the data perhaps
Perhaps MikeDee and Donnie can help you more with this if you give us a specific goal in mind.

I would believe that what he is looking for is the total number of data items put out by HTR not counting the duplicates that are found from export to export. Guess I could quickly drop the fieldnames into a table and search for unique values using SQL. May have time later for that....

I don't think anyone knows. You could try pasting all of the hxN.txt files (the file specs) into a spread sheet. Eliminate all rows that are not fields and all duplicate field names and the number of rows you are left with will be the number of unique fields.

Hey Boundry...I copied all the fields into an excel file...I will kick out duplicates later, but thought this may be of interest to some out there who are wondering what can we include in a query.....xls file attached!

hey thanks Donnie for that field list.
did NOT expect to ever need such a report
then TomCat refers to MIKE
yes, found MIKE on TLC screen
and, now confirmed the field MIKE is NOT in HX1-2-3-4-5
now question is: Which export has MIKE?
plan to post reply to thread KEENELAND
where TomCat has excellent report about MIKE at KEE

ok....I came up with 796 unique fields...give or take a few. I went thru and broke it down by table and removed all the duplicate fields between HX1, 2, 3 and 4. I used HX4 as the "central" table. Duplicates were removed from the other tables. Any fields found on HX1,2, or 3 that are not on HX4 were left sorted in their own tables.
I did not remove any fields from 5,6,7, HXV or MSA.

Thanks Donnie,
Lots of data!
I combined the list into a single column and sorted the fields. Then I removed the dupicate names and came up with 694 fields.
