Congrats Carl!! That will convert to a "lot of loonies". ie; Canadian $$$$.
Not to mention the ESB 10% bonus!!
Excellent call Mike on the $24.80 winner in Race2. Would have liked him better if he hadn't beat out my #3 in the tri key hole.

Nice call on the #5 in the second Mike. He did pop out as single on my spots too, I was going to post a DD for a bit, then decided to post it the way I would bet it (which turns out fine for me too).
Had the #10 horse good ($50W) at ESB, turns out to be a "month maker" for me. And there's a case where that 10% really helps, gives me a $100 more in the account.
Think I'll pull some more money out after the weekend (I'll bet Norm's Football picks first I hope he's good hehe). Only small problem, the wife knows about it, when checks come in she thinks they are "house money". Been trying to explain the concept of "cash in play" to her for years now, she looks at me like I am speaking Latin or something.
BTW, we need a picks type contest for September. Anybody got any suggestions/rules? One thing that may be cool IF he is up for it is a contest Canuck/Steve ran at PA's, he called it a "Beer and Bacon". IF he interested, I'll let him post the rules.

Nice Hurrikane.
Now you gotta do the hard job, calculating the ROI. What's that line from the movie Blow(?), "It takes longer to count the money than it does to make it"?

Nice job on the P4 'Kane.
I felt like a freshman in high school watching all the seniors "get the girls" today.
Substitute $$$ for girls in the above.
As Carl says, they will run in circles again tomorrow.
Great pick'n everybody.

Carl--yeah--that Beer and Bacon contest was a gas-the follow-up hosted by Boris (Juice and Jerky) was won by Glen-he may have to give us a few strokes!!
The rules for the original contest were simple-I selected the first race and after that whoever selected a winner would be able to post a race of their choice. In case of multiple winners on said race the first to post was the one we would go with. At the end of a month most wins won a case of beer and a couple of pounds of back bacon--Tuffmug prevailed and I sent him $50--beer and bacon does not ship very well LOL
I would be willing to do it again for the same stakes--any feedback (most wins-best ROI etc.)post here and if there is enough interest what the hell.....
BTW Glen--how did that jerky taste?
Carl
31st August 2001, 08:52.56 AM
Thanks Canuck.
Don't think we need the $50 ( yet ), but would love to have you score the contest.
The only things I remember differently than you describe were
1) The race had to have a MLO favorite of not less than 3-1 and
2) A minimum amount of entries(?)

Dunno...Jerky must still be in the mail....Naaa, I told Boris not to worry about it. The local Mobil station next to the office has a fine selection of premium dried meat product. If not, local Jack in the Box serves fine hockey puck burger.
BTW, I was reviewing SAR yesterday...Check this out

First 6 races won by either Ev1 (PL1) or *Early horse.
Next 2 races won by Lv1 (PL1) horse. So todays strategy? I dunno, maybe play P6 with all Ev1/Lv1 horseys...Na, those things never hold up over 2 day period...

Also--should we make this contest open to anyone in cyberspace or limit it to HTR users?
canuck
31st August 2001, 09:15.22 AM
Carl-criteria for original contest
The selected race had to have a min of 9 betting interests and each horse had to have a min of 3 running lines--also MLO of fav had to be min 3-1 to try and avoid drop dead chalks

I'll go along with whatever. But I would prefer a contest like last month $100 a day the only difference any race any place any wager. That way everyone can take there best shots with the type of wagers they like to play. Honor system everyone keeps track of their own.
I don't care who plays as long as Carl does (I want to start betting his long shots!!)

I'm with Mike...I'll play anything as long as Carl keeps posting bombs. :D Nice pickin this month Carl...

Well,
First, I enjoyed the B & B contest at PA's, it was fun. Not really what I "do", but was interesting. I think a few of you guys will like the format, especially those of you who know the in's and out's of K1's. (Like every race has one right?)
Second, any one wants to follow my "bombs", please feel welcome to do so. Only small cavats I can offer are:
1) Be prepared for the 0-30 run, it's a coming, you can bet on it. And when this is followed by one winner paying $8.00, then another 0-18, would recommend two aspirin and call me in the morning.
2) I have been lucky the last few months (I think). Now it is true I have changed a few things around in my handicapping, but "been there before, done that before". One thing I can guarantee, I will not be holding a $2.00 plus ROI for any long period of time by any stretch of the imagination.
3) One of the early contests we had on this board, the one Rhoda debuted with a $50 horse in, I did manage a 0-17 performance in. So....
Mike,
The $100 format is better suited to my style of play too, but in a way it so what for me? We can post a $100 bet here anytime, I kinda like the idea of varying formats, gives us a chance to "broaden our horizons" as it were. And maybe we'll get some more people playing, which would be fun.
Canuck,
It's an open board, I think we should let all Yo's in, HTR or no. But that's just my opinion.
later,
Carl
