That's great gang- i'll be joining you there as i was one of the "elite" invites (must have found my name in trash can or something) and will be going too.
There are tournaments at KEE and DMR that day as well, maybe the competition will be soft and we can snag one of those 9 spots.
Maybe McKee will respond here with hotel and contest information as he has been there many times and his wife qualified there last year.
Just guessing, but I betcha there will noshows at the door Donnie, I wonder if you can get on a standby list the day of the event in case they don't fill to 400 players.

I managed to trick 'em too Ken and got an invite so I'll be there as well. Looking forward to it. Also, for what its worth I picked up a hotel near the airport as I'm arriving very late Friday (or, rather, early Saturday) and leaving early Monday so I wanted to be as close as possible. I'll have a rental car as well so if anyone else interested in sharing a ride to the track on Saturday and/or Sunday, rooms at the Clarion adjacent to Seatac are about 70 bucks a night taxes included.

As far as the contest goes, about the the only strong suggestion I would make is to get there in plenty of time to attend the Saturday contest kick-off seminar, as well as the Saturday races. The seminar (I think it runs from 10-11 am) is quite entertaining, and informative (esp. if you have not played in many tournaments before). Attending the kick-off on Saturday also gives you the chance to get a feel for the place, see the areas where you may want to sit during Sunday's contest (some areas have power, some do not), and also register. If you don't register on Saturday you are locked-in to arriving at EmD prior to 10:00 am on Sunday (the registration deadline).
If you are planning on attending the races on Saturday, I would suggest making a reservation in the Rainier terrace. To do this, you would have to call on the morning of July 16th, as they take reservations 14 days in advance.
For those of you who have not been to a racetrack in person in quite some time, you may also enjoy the mainline/track apron. Emerald does tend to attract large crowds on sunny days.
As far as hotels go, there are some suggested hotels in the packet you will recieve in the mail, and if staying in close proximity to the track is important I would encourage you to support those hotels (Courtyard by Marriot is probably the best choice on the list). The area around the track is not exactly overflowing with (IMO) great dining options however.
The Sea-Tac area (near the airport) is a solid 20 minute drive from the track. One thing you may want to check on is the availability of HSInternet access at hotels near SeaTac. Most of them are older, and probably more than 1/2 of them do not have dataports. (Dehere, if you need internet access, you may want to check, I am fairly certain the Clarion does not have it unless thay added it since April).
We generally stay in the Southcenter/Tukwila/Renton area. It's @10 miles north of the track, on the same side of I-5, @halfway between Emerald and Downtown Seattle. My personal suggestion would be the SpringHill Suites Seattle South. The rates are reasonable (@$100 a night after tax), they have complimentary HSInternet access, free breakfast in the morning (not just muffins and coffee) and the rooms are large with seperate sleeping areas, so I can handicap with the lights on while my SO sleeps.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding Saturday racing. I've love to join others in a table in the Rainier terrace if anyone can stand my company.
The Clarion does have complimentary HS internet in the rooms - at least according to their web site. Obviously a must have when reserving a room these days. I just gotta stay there or some other spot near the airport given the time I arrive and leave Seattle.
For what its worth, when I asked about laptop power for the contest I was told to just mention it to them when I registered and they would make sure it was available at wherever it was I was betting. That sure sounded like a refreshing approach for a contest location.
A nice workout play just won the 6th at CNL, paying $258 to win and keying a $1,200 exacta and $6,199 trifecta. I spent the week end there and it was nice to see the return of several $1,000 plus trifectas over the course of two days. Karamanos is very very hot, but he's taking money and when he isn't in the money the payoffs can be very generous. If folks haven't been paying attention, it might make sense to do so.
