I order to know what the symbols like FX etc. mean I have to read the news letters and Moder Pace Handicapping. Is that the way to find out their meaning and how they are roughly figured?

On the first screen (before you get to the tracks) there is a box called "Help and Information".

For example, it will tell you there that "FX" is a combination of fr1 and fr3 Vel figures.

All those pace numbers were mumbo jumbo to me until I read Modern Pace Handcapping by Tom Brohamer. Hasn't helped my bottom line yet, but now I know what all the numbers mean (g).

Same here...I had no idea what all that Feet Per Second stuff was till I read the book. IMHO, it would do nothing but better your handicapping to read the book if you are going to use HTR. Just don't get bogged down by how to perform the mathematical calculations in the book. The program does it all for you.
