Saw on another board that somebody saw the show pool and bet $5.00 to show on the second best horse which finished out of the money. If you ever see this and want to take advantgage of possible big show payoff, just bet every horse to show. No thinking involved. In this 8 horse race it will cost you $ 16.00 with a guarantee of at least $ 6.30 back so you are risking less than $ 10.00.

Oh My God - Jet, look at those show mutuels! That has to be a record show payoff on the 3rd horse, more than $200 to show is beyond reason. The fool that pissed all that money away must be floating face down in the Ohio river by now.
Bridge Jumper must have bet $200,000+ to show on Buster's Daydream the 1/9 favorite who finished out of the money. Buster did look unbeatable on paper and has been touted for next year's Derby, but the plungers usually wait for a 5 horse field to eliminate trouble possibilities, this guy went for it in a 7 horse heat. Nuts.
If you find a further article on this anywhere, please post. I missed betting this one while in Las Vegas, but there was no way to see the pools there. Just a $20 show bet on any of the top three finishers puts you ahead for the lifetime with the bridge jumper system (described in the July newsletter). The 2nd favorite was also off the board, so it was a tough nut crack.
Thx for the post Jet!

this is unbelievable....is this a new fad or had it been happening and I just never paid attention?

This has been happening for years. I first became aware of it in the early 60's in New York. At that time we were amazes at the players at AUQ who really like to pound the favorites down to 2-5 or 3-5. I remember one 2-5 shot in those days - Don Piego - ??? who ran 50 yards and stopped. A week later it came out that he had a blockage and hadn't taken a leak in a week b4 the race . It pains me to even think about it. Over the years there have been times where the show paid more than win or place and it is where the heavy favorite finished out of the money. You will see this at the harness where the big favorite breaks and finishes out of the money. I have always said I need the 100 grand more than the 5 thousand I will win if the 2-5 shot finishes in the money.

I have been out buying up Ichiro Bobble Head dolls at the local Safeway. I think it is safer than putting 100 grand down on a 4 legged animal.

Jet..
I have seen many shows pay more than the wins...just seems the show 'bridge bets' are more frequent..have you seen these kind of payoffs frequently..or is it just lately it seems they are more in the 'lime light' of us bettors?

Hurrikane,
I am a big tote-watcher and spend a lot of time looking for "out-of-balance" conditions in both the place and show pools. Happened to miss the one at Ellis though had a win bet on the race. Had pre-bet the winner earlier in the day.
Have seen five "bridge-jump" pools in last eight months. Have played two of them successfully. Don't think they occur frequently enough to spend much time hunting them. Would be a nice thing to program CHERRYPICKER to look for and wager for you. If that program develops to where it can "watch" more than one track might be worth doing.

Announcement from DMR today that said that they were not taking any show bets on the Mule race at SAC. Must of been a bridge jumper nearby.

And another attempt in California to make 5% "profit" went south in a hurry in the FPX 10th:
Race: 10 Win Place Show
1st 7 SWEET STEPPER 33.40 15.80 29.20
2nd 8 DELONG 10.60 17.00
3rd 10 VITO CORLEONE 15.20
$2 Exacta 7-8 150.40
$2 Trifecta 7-8-10 1126.20
$2 Quinella 7-8 100.00
Refunds: 4
$2 Pick 3 9/8/7 3 of 3 1218.80
$2 Pick 6 2,3,7/7/2,3/9/8/7 5 of 6 2479.00
C/over: $ 57846.51
And for them that like these sorts, the #7 was +7 in nESD.....

Interesting Don. Thanks for the post.
Didn't think I would ever see a horse win, pay $56.00 to win and $2.10 to show. Have now though.
Apparently a $12500 race at MED today had same sort of action, with $40,000 out of $48,000 bet to show on the horse who finished a (tiring) second.
Me predicts these nutballs will be out of action within a month, one thing about horseracing, sh*t always happens, and usually sooner than later. Maybe some good opts to show bet "other than the obvious" in the next few days IF that FPX 10th didn't take the heart and wallet out of these sillies....

Why are we assuming this is one person. NYRA and all tracks are doing alot to get new fans to racing. Couldn't this be the collective pick of a uninformed race crowd that thinks that betting a favorite with a lock to show is a exciting way to spend a day at the track?

Mike, I agree. Think it most cases it is just more than 1 idiot making a bad choice...More of a collection of wild monkeys raiding an infected bannana tree...For our sake, long live the wild monkey! GO MONKEY GO!

Hell of a time to be "a value show bettor".
Looks like something silly happened at KD today too in the 3rd..
