Well it seems that Youbet(of all companies) is looking into buying one of the biggest off-shore sites in Curacao. No doubt this will lend U.S. credence to this company and make you feel safer in placing bets there. The article is at bloodhorse.com. Also, Tampa raised purses again because of increased handle, I wonder how much of this was due to the 10% rebate that were given at Youbet(but not available to CA residents). There are weak rumors that CD will start to offer rebates(don't know if this is true or not) during it's Spring Meet. I think Pinnacle is having a serious effect on betting in the U.S. More power to Pinnacle and to the bettors!!!

Anything that puts pressure on the tracks to realize they simply charge too much to play is good. The reality is this is an incredibly difficult game to beat, much of that due to the extremely high cost to play. Not everyone that plays this game has a profit motive (luckily )
but many do

Tampa Bay/Oaklawn seem to seriously contradict their positions when allowing some form of rebating on their product. I'm sure they will tell it's different than what they were facing with a scecondary provider, but in fact it's still a rebate. Explain that to an on-track patron at say Tampa Bay. The same on-track patron who Tampa Bay officials were religous about protecting them from the evil rebaters.

Article about YOUBET and possible acquisition
http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/todaysnews/newsview.asp?recno=52744&subsec=1

YouBet has very cautiously, as if walking tip-toe into cold wager, experimented with minor rebates that are directly approved from their host tracks - mostly harness. Maybe they are doing it the right way, slowly and carefully bringing player and track together without angering anyone. From time to time they have contacted "our best players" for special rebate trials. If you have been involved in one these exclusive trials, please share your experience.

speaking of acquisitions:

The Mohegan Tribal Council has aopproved purchase of the Pocono Downs Racepark in PA. Interesting that the Indians are interested in running a horse track....is there even gambling (slots/casinos) in PA?

Donnie,

I understand that slots have been approved for Pennsylvania.

This article hints at what is likely to happen now. Players that want access through these OTB's with good rebates will have to fill out various forms and background checks. I'm guessing the scrutiny will be less difficult for a USA outlet than an offshore!

industry is famous for wasting money and resources-

anyone really think

1)they will stop the people whom they are seeking to stop from getting money into the pool

2)Anyone who they may be trying to stop is actually going to comply with regulations

so it will yet again put a burden on us-while those who they are illegally trying to keep out of the pools will keep on keeping on.
