It brings me great sadness to report that a close friend of mine passed away over the Christmas holiday. Edward Aleksinas, or "Oatmeal Ed" as he was known to TVG viewers introduced me to pace analysis back in the early 90's and was a dyed in the wool Sartinite. And while he was not an HTR subscriber, without his pace and velocity knowledge I would have never come this far with my handicapping skills and would not be with HTR today. He was only 64. He will be missed by many.

Sorry to hear it Inglewood - RIP Oatmeal Ed. Lot of good handicappers are leaving us lately.
Speaking of Sartin, has he passed away too? Ernie and I last visited Sartin at the 'Institute' in 1996 in Beaumont. A few months later I received a note from Howard with my final check for MPH and some very kind words of encouragement. That was the last time we communicated. Over the years we heard rumors hear and there and it was always thought that he was in poor health, but no one that actually knew his wearabouts or had spoken to him. If anyone has information or a link, please post.

Last I heard, probably over the summer, Doc was still kicking about.
There was a phone number posted over at PaceAdvantage that was working at the time-I'll see if I can find it over there.
I, too, was a Satinista for years-I remember well the unveiling of MPH....at a seminar in Baltimore...it was a quantum leap forward in handicapping. Still have/use that bad boy.

"....call Alene on Mondays or Fridays from 12 - 4. She continues as Sartin's tech support. Always very helpful to me. 1-909-849-4499. Good luck!"
Found this number from 2003. Not sure if it is still good.
Also found this possible lnumber/link:
The NEW PHONE NUMBER AFTER AUGUST 26, 2003 is:

Hey Inglewood..very sorry to hear of your friend's passing. You are right....64 is still very young! I guess you have one more angel watching over you and your horses now! Hope his passing was peaceful and pain-free.

Dick Schmidt answerd my question bout Doc's health today at PA's:
"After being very ill, he has made a slight recovery and is doing better. He will never be in "good" health again, but he is holding his own.
Dick"

Good detective work there T', thanks for the follow up (no pun intended)!
Guess that is what we expected to hear - sounds like Howard has been on thin ice for awhile. A lot of negative things have been written about Sartin in the last 10 years, some of it justified, but in my case, he was always very kind and generous and he and his daughter Mary were real supportive of me when I needed it most while getting started in business.
(the "Follow Up" was the monthly newsletter of the Sartin group)

I have two large binders full of "Follow Ups" in the garage. Just in case anyone needs to know the original meanings of the "tandem race", "match up", "contra energy", etc. :D
