Ken,
I'm (as usual) on the road - this time at Saratoga Springs. I ordinarily don't have a problem getting computer access, but ran into a hitch for which I wonder if others might also benefit from a change. Situation: downloading files, the applet asks you if you want to download to a hard drive, and a tree shows the hard drives and directories available. Would it be possible to change the applet so it is also possible to download to a floppy drive? Nearly all the public computers I've used have some kind of security system that makes it difficult if not impossible to download files to a hard drive, but floppy drive is no problem. Thanks.

Neil

(Incidentally, we're staying at Moreau State Park which is beautiful, cheap, and only 10 miles away. Need to plan in advance if you want to stay here - they were booked solid in late March. The Saratoga Springs public library has free internet access, and the computer system operator is Josh Kuperman, who maintains the reflect mode of the Derby List. If you have a laptop and a wireless network card, he can fix you up to access the library's network.)

Neil,

You cannot download to a floppy drive with the download cart applet; this is one of the parameters of the applet and it cannot be changed. Some public computers might have their security settings set on high also, which could prevent the applet from running.

If you are in a position where you cannot use the download cart applet, you can download files individually by right clicking on the file you want, click SAVE TARGET AS, then choose the drive and folder to where you want to download the file (in your case, probably a:).

If you download more than one file, it will remember where you put your first file, so you don't have to click around looking for a: for every file you download. IE will assume that you want to download subsequent files to the same drive/folder.
