You could see it coming during the running of the Travers (11th race) at Saratoga on Saturday. All of sudden it was as dark as night and lightening flashes were cracking in the background. The simulcast signal went out....

They cancelled the 12th race before the horses ever got out of the receiving barn, it was just too threatening out there. Must have been quite an exit with more than 50,000 people at the track! Were any of you out there?

DELETE the 12th from your SAR HTR software listing Saturday - results will not show up. All wagers were refunded and the PICK6 was paid off with ALL, causing low payoffs because any horse used in the 12th was a counted a winner in the final leg.

HTR Summer Contest players here get a no-wager refund on all SAR-12 bets.

The Travers? Looked like a similar race to the Derby on paper and down the backstretch as Purge tracked Lion Heart through (apparent) slow fractions. But they both threw in the towel and Birdstone blew home with authority as he did in the Belmont.

Sets up a great East vs. West matchup in the Breeders Cup Classic. Birdstone vs. Pleasantly Perfect who has a super impressive resume in the last 356-days with wins in the Br Cup Classic, the Dubai World Champ, Santa Anita Handicap and Pacific Classic at DMR last week.
Whichever horse wins the Br Cup Classic at Lone Star in October will be Horse of the Year.
If Pleasantly Perfect win it - he becomes the highest earning thoroughbred in history.

Smarty Jones? --- he'll be all but forgotten by then - but he'll probably win 3yr of the year if Birdstone doesn't prevail in the Br Cup.

I was at Saratoga Friday, and I can only image what the dust hole I parked in looked like after the downpour! Yikes!

Hi Ken - I was at Saratoga for the Travers. Had a great time. I went up with my 16 year old nephew and we nailed the pic 4 with a $1 2x2x2x2 =$16 bet. We confined our pics to the K1 - K3 in each of the races eliminating 1 horse per race. We ended up hitting a signer and after waiting for a half hour to fill out the 1099 and get my picture taken ( remove the hat sir) we split $657.
About 50000 people and great exciting racing all day long. The sky turned pitch black just before the Travers and the electrical storm was unbelievable. I think the horses went into the gate 2 minutes to post. Despite the weather and rain people filled the apron near the track to watch the race. We were standing in the second floor grandstand as the horses came into the stretch and it was the loudest roar that i have ever heard at a racetrack.
HTR had a good day too with a hittable pic 4 , pic 6, and a nice overlay on Silver Train in the third race. My nephew was definitely impressed and will probably be a future subscriber!!!

Excellent Jim - Nice hits for you and nephew. Have him give me a call as soon as he turns 18 and gets a credit card!

Thanks to you and Tbrown for the on-scene reports from the spa. Never get tired of Saratoga.
