As a new HTR user I was wondering what is the difference between all the export options? Is there a preferred one to use? I often hear a lot about HX4. HX1, HX2, HX3, HX4, HX5, HX6, HTR4MSA... the're all greek to me! I think I am clear that exporting will take the information and ratings from HTR and transfer them into a comma delimited file for use in Access, Excel, custom programs, but why so many options?
Also, what is export to an ALL file? And when you export I assume it goes to my C drive but where. Thanks guys!

All of your exports go to the C:\HTR folder where your HTR2 program resides.

Why so many different exports? as time moves forward, some of us refuse to do upgrades, and we design programs around those numbers. The export files are limited in how big they can be, so when someone needs this specific number in an export, a new export number needs to be developed. With all of the numbers available thru HTR, there could probably be a few more exports versions, but in time they will probably come. When you export, it exports to individual files designated for each track. The ALL button will move all exported files into one ALL file....we then seperate out the tracks we want to se through queries inside each of the programs we import the numbers into.

Ernie and Donnie, Thank you very much for the prompt reply. That helps clear up much of what was clouding my understanding of the export feature.

Actually your exported files go into the same directory as your race files are in.

With HTR2 it is easy to change directories.

Say you download all of todays racefiles into a directory that is just for todays race files without results. Let's call that directory C:\HTR\daily\

If you want to export all of the races in that directory you would open HTR2, change to C:\HTR\daily\ and click on the Eye icon. Then click on Export, select your export option, select your paceline mode, select Export Races w/o Results, select Export to an All File, select Export All Tracks on List, and click Export now.

If you selected HX4, you would end up with a file named ALL_HX4.txt located in C:\HTR\daily\

You can also do this on a different harddrive like D: or E:, it is just not documented. I am presently running HTR2 on D: drive.

Ingle.....welcome to the htr group

I would recommend that you review the import file specifications These are named HX1.txt, HX2.txt, etc. They can be downloaded from the htr web site and you can open them with any word processor.

HX3 has statebred, lifetime stats and a the complete set of pace figs for all the pace factors.
HX1 and HX2 were early versions of HX3.

The most used export is HX4. This has most of the fields that users want from the htr program. I recommend that you work with this one.

HX5 is past performance data and has data for 10 pp lines per horse. I would suggest that you save this for future use, if you decide to go the acccess route for daily play and you have become very good with access.

HX6 is 23 fields of the most usefull htr figures and is provided primarly for spreadsheet users who don't want to go the full Db route.

Finally I would recommend that you stay away from htrmsa. This was provided by Ken for users who had dBs built on the old and now defunct htrmsa extract program when it would no longer work. the HX exprots provide the latest and best figures and will be the ones that are maintained going forward.

Got a question and this seems like an okay forum to post it. Since I downloaded the Feb. 10th edition of HTR2 I get this message that "nothing was exported" when I export a day's files using the new very nifty daily export feature in HTR2. Its an incorrect message, however, as the files exported just fine. I don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but I'm curious if this is happening to anyone else and what I need to do to correct it. Thanks.

I have found I get that message when the last track on the track list doesn't have any races for the date you are trying to export.

If you run into this in other cases please post your experience.
