Several logistical problems have delayed posting the Windows version of HTR this week. Rick and I need to work them out and will report back on Monday. Here they are in nutshell =
* Initial installation file is large and complicated to up/download. We had it on diskette in Vegas and it worked great in the laptops. But an INternet installation is much more delicate. Email is a weak link for such a large file exchange.
* The handicapping material is limited and incomplete. While I have been successful in converting all screens from HTR, PRAT, TLC, HTR4MSA and IMPACT into a single program; it is a nightmare to get them organized and formatted for viewing. Right now I have completed a DRF style pp's and a IMPACT pp's nicely on screen. Velocity data is extraordinarily complex to work with - the code in the DOS version is nearly 8000 lines! One mistake and the whole thing takes a poop.
* Printing operations will be much improved in Windows version. But Windows OS is a headache to deal with. Luckily we are passed the Screen and Unzip issues in Windows. The printing is the final obstacle that must be worked through the Windows operating system. There are 6 versions of Windows to deal with 95, 98, ME, XP, NT and 2000. All of them handle things a bit differently. Then there is the issue of the printer itself.........everything from old dot/matrix print balls to 30 ppm super lasers.
I can email you, on request a copy of the installation for Windows that was given out in Vegas. This will give you an early look at the program and get the one-time large installation files out of the way. But do not request it if you are on AOL, JUNO or HOTMAIL. They do not allow file attachments that are larger than 1mb in size. This one is about 1.35mb.
Diskette/CD installations are 100% reliable, but the snail mail is our last resort for distribution.
All users can download any size file from this Internet site - but you will have to wait until Rick can post a workable link here. Once the initial installation is completed, the updates are very small and a single file.
Thanks for listening - sorry for the delay.
