Greetings!! I just wanted to say that I'm honored and privileged to be part of this board,
with such a great group of guys (and gals). I've been lurking on the outskirts of town
for awhile, (around the campfire), getting acquainted with HTR, and seeing (on this board), how you'all help us- (software/computer) novices out. It gives a warm feeling to an old codger, to know there's backup from friends.

Ken has helped me with the free HTR weekend, and answered all my questions,
including fixing a bug I ran across in HTR, concerning wet tracks. He's GREAT! And you probably couldn't get a better webmaster than Rick. What a team!

With roots in Ariz. Texas, La., I've been in Ca. way too long. But the great thing is, now,
HTR can go wherever I go! And IF I can find a way to use it profitably, - I won't
have to be a hired gun anymore! - (I used to love watching HGWT.)

Anyway, I look forward to being 'part of your posse'.
Now, let's hunt down those winners!!

Heard there's a shoot'in match, in this here,- friendly little town.
Excuse me, Gotta check my horse in, over at the livery stable.
(He's the one without a number)

Sincerely, Paladin

MikeDee

MikeDee, Donnie, t.Martin -- Thanks for the welcome matt boys.

MikeDee- I only use one gun, but don't know if I should enter. Heard you got a
ringer, direct from the Wild West Show.- By the name of Annie Oakley, also
known as Leakey Eyes !!

Donnie- Sure wish I could have been at your seminar (in Ky.) on Access. Thats
something I'd sure like to learn. Been making a db by copying the info from htr,
onto pages and pages of 'ledger paper'. - Doesn't compare to exporting to access
of course. But one good thing about it.- By scanning the (graph type) paper with my eyes, I
can actually 'see' patterns, rather than guessing which ones to query on the computer.
Maybe it will be a good primer until I can learn Access. (or Excel) Which I have both
on my computer, just don't how to use them.

t.Martin- Also looking forward to talkin horses. The finer points can only be discussed with
other handicappers that are 'tuned in' to racing. And in this case, to HTR. I'm sure I'll have
a lot of questions. Especially since I'm just starting to subscribe. In fact, I can see one
question coming up soon:

All the rankings, ratings, figures that HTR gives us, are dependent on One Thing:
Who's In The Race ? Which is why, who Scratches, is KEY to being able to use HTR.
I noticed there is no 'Scratch Box' to download scratches from, on the HDW site.
Not even overnight scratches. Is this something HDW is working on (I hope)?
So the question is, what is the best way to get scratches for so many tracks. The work
that everybody does on databases, to find systems, patterns, etc. -- a PLAN, is all done
AFTER SCRATCHES. I realize that some horses are scratched at the gate, but I'm talking
about the majority of regular scratches.

Just looked at my post. So here's a stupid question.- Why are the lines on my post
cut in mid sentence, and put on the next line? It looked OK when I pressed the preview
button.

You are hitting the enter key at the end of the box instead of letting it just wrap by itself. The trick is to only hit the enter key when you are closing out a paragraph or need to start a new line.

The easiest way to do scratches is to download ATRproForHTR and try it with HTR. You have to be connected to the Internet to get the scratches and learn how to do it but it is the easiest way going right now.

Check the Aug 03 newsletter - Ken has one page on it.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome Paladin

I'm a newby here too, and was amazed at the atmosphere here. Everyone is helpful and sharing.

A lot of the (early) scratches are picked up by HDW and included in the download. But the best and easiest way is as Ricks suggests - download ATRproForHTR. On Saturday I scratched over 170 horses in a few seconds!! The download will give you 30 days to try it.

Welcome aboard.

Leaky Eyes here:

Ah, come on Paladin... you're not gonna enter the Summer Challenge just because of a WOMAN !! I'm no ringer... just a part-time handicapper that got lucky. I promise to keep my six-shooter in the holster..OK ? BTW are you from the state of So. Cal or No. Cal ??
Welcome to the board and good luck. Barb aka Annie Oakley ???

Barb,

Thanks for the welcome and the in vite. No sane man would refuse Annie Oakley ....... and live to talk about it. But this handicapping contest and shootin 5-10 races a day, is really not my style. I'm a one shot, and make it count kind of player. However I'm sure it would be good practice for me. Even though I'll probably have 1 real pick per day, and the rest would just be wild shots in the wind.

I now live in S. Calif. But as you might remember, I lived at the Hotel Carlton in San Fran. for many years. I would like to move back north though. Above Frisco. Used to travel a lot more back in those days. A different era. A different kinda 'contest'. I remember on one of my 'business' trips to Tombstone...Main ST..... one man was left with leaky eyes....well just one eye was leakin!

But seriously, I have too much respect for the fine minds on this board to enter a contest where I don't belong. But it would be a growing and humble experience. And at my age any type of growing would be welcome! And come to think about it, I've never really been where I belong anyway! So maybe HTR IS a place I can hang my hat and call home.-win or lose.

By the way, I don't believe for one minute, that you just got lucky in beating PL-5!! That contest covered a lot of days. And you didn't get to pick which races to play. When I hear about you and Ken and other HTR boys entering contests around the country,(Vegas), I'm always pulling fer ya. I think I live my contests vicariously, through the great people on this board. There's so much to learn, I hardly know where to start.

Barb, If you remember that Paladin lived at the Carlton in San Fran., not far from where you live now, you might remember something else..Click on the homepage website on my profile, and see if you remember? ----Thanks again for the welcome.

Welcome Paladin,

>> I'm a one shot, and make it count kind of player. However I'm sure it would be good practice for me. <<

Me too. I only make 3 to 5 serious bets a week. I have, however, found the
Contests to be a good learning experience, where I have learned a great
deal about the game and myself. Best of Luck!

Thanks Dr. Larry, I think you're right. It would be a good learning experience. Usually I just sit on the sidelines and watch. I got a big kick outta that last contest. Annie (Barb) had a lead in deep stretch, got passed, then pulled out a silver bullet, came on again, (which is a great quality to have), ...and nostrilized PL-5 at the wire. I thought it was exciting! I followed it almost every day. Was hoping she'd pull it out. Showed what it takes to beat PL-5. -- A WOMAN ! Next thing ya know, she'll be on the Lifetime (male bashing) Channel !

It's nice to know there's someone else (you) that only makes a few serious plays a week. Maybe eventually I'll work my way up to more plays. But for now I'd rather feel slightly confident about a few plays a week, than be guessing at 10 or more per week. If you're the same way, then I feel like I'm in good company ! Thanks.

Welcome Paladin,
The people on this board are without a doubt some of the best in the biz. Helpful, freindly, and most of all they know what they speak of. Ken is allways helpful. So are Donnie and MikeDee and Ricks and everyone. Just good people and you will fit in as well.
Welcome and enjoy yourself.

Leaky Eyes here:

I don't remember those days at the Carlton in Frisco. I was still in diapers. But my hubby filled me in on the show and Paladin and all that jazz. I do like Annie Oakley's duds though. And no male bashing shows for me... Good Luck
:) Barb
