Things I wasn't able to figure out from newsletters and help files.
1. In the TLC screen, there is %E figure above the "Energy" row in the third block of
ratings. I thought it was the average for that distance, etc., but it didn't match
up to the number in the track model. So what does it represent?
2. What do the asterisks next to the P=Scan difference mean? I thought it had to do
with Fred4Now's contender process, involving K and P-Scan, but in Belmont's
ninth race on Sunday it didn't seem to fit in that 5 horses had asterisks down to a K of 85.
3. I thought the K rating was paceline agnostic, but I've found the number changes
with the paceline. (well, it does for me.)
4. What is the asterisk mean in the K rating on the Velocity screen. (I think it's top
four K horses.)
5. In earlier newsletters last year in explaining the abbreviations, and notations on the program,
Ken explained about brackets around the QP and class changes as well as
"bf" notaions for beaten favorite, etc. but I don't see them anywhere. Where
did they go?
6. How come the charted numbers in FIG 2 don't have the same brackets, etc. around
them as in FIG 1. Is it a programming limitation? It would seem like it would be
important to know which races are from the same distance/surface as it's noted
in FIG 1.
Thanks

Here we go HG
1) "%" a beta-test item that reveals possible significant class changes. Not necessarily class drops. But an alert that will tell you when an Alw horse is entering claiming for the first time, or a Msw is moving down to Mcl. It does not take into account track-class differences though, so has to be used as a red-flag, not a definite indicator. For example, if an Alw horse from FL drops into his first lifetime claimer at SAR, it is hardly a drop. Later I'll test this one thoroughly and determine if it stays or in not, but I like it a bit so far.
2) The Fred4Now contender selector is an "OR" not an "AND" situation. Either the Pscan or the K number will qualify. This is another one I'll test this later in the year for the newsletter and determine if it stays in. Right now I would give it 'thumbs down' and suggest the K-rating alone is more indicative for contenders.
3) The (K) rating was NOT paceline sensitive in the DOS version. The (K) DOES change according to PL method chosen in the Windows version; making it a bit more flexible according to pace and speed comparisons. Newsletters in the last 12 months have mentioned this.
4) * = top 4 (K). I like to use the 3-6-9-12 method for finding overlays with the K ranking
K1 is an overlay at 3/1 or more (rare, but they occur and win all the time)
K2 is a good play at 6/1 or more (you'll find lots of these when the chalk is overbet)
K3 is a live longshot at 9/1 or more and many of them finish 2nd or 3rd
K4 is good bet at 12/1 or more, again, many will make the trifecta
5) Those items still apply in the DOS TLC version. But they were a 'thumbs down' when we created The TLC in HTR2001 -- It uses the brackets to mark a "2nd after layoff". The "bf" beaten favorite was basically bumbed out by the reliable Vi number to determine when the favorite is up against it.
6) Sheet players asked that the brackets be dumped in FIG2 - too annoying - so I left the numbers "clean" in FIG2.

Thanks, Ken, but on number 1 I'm still a bit confused. Think we're talking about two different
things here.
Go to HOL, Sunday, Race 1, on the TLC screen, in the 3rd row above where the
%E is listed for all the horses, it says "53.41%" for PL 5. It is paceline sensitive.
It seems like it is the average of the %E's listed below that.
How would you use that "average" %E figure in your handicapping? Is it an indicator
of how the field stacks up energy wise??

You are correct HG - thanks. I was speaking about a beta-test issue of HTR2001 that has not been made public with the "%" symbol in the TLC. It will be included in the next update.
Yes, on the VEL screen, the %early average was requested by a user. I didn't seem to detract or annoy anyone, so I left on there.

Thanks, Ken, that sounds like a cool upgrade.
Doesn't look good for Lexington unless I hit a nice pik-3 or something.
Turned out it would be an expensive weekend for the family with the planefare, car rental,
and the other little extras. (No real cheapie fares to Lexington from NY.)
And leaving my 4 yr old with my wife for 3 days to go to a horse racing seminar would
mean I would be in her debt through -- oh, 2030.

Haven't seen this % indicator for significant class drop. Maybe just the tracks I look at or has it been removed from the TLC?

To be released at the seminar - we're still beta-testing the "%"
