When I download files, after the applet is initialized, a small pop up message appears and says no files selected. I hit the ok button and about 15 minutes later the files appear and I proceed to download them with no problem. Wondering why this happens?
Is there a way to get the trainer text files and results charts into the htr 2001 program. I know that there is a catagory for each but have never used it due to ignorance.
Also where can I get the info on the pp1,pp2 screen. I am having trouble understanding what numbers are which.(ex-cramer,quinn,pace,velocity.) I have pretty much just used the velocity screen while trying to look up pp's the best I can.
I have been using the program for about a year and like it alot. I would like to learn more and any help would be appreciated.
www.powerpicks.com has a contest calender that has good info.

Tony, your download problem is beyond me, probably need to adjust some browser or security settings. Call Ron at HDW (locally for you) at 502-570-0333 and he can help you.
For now, you can download faster by taking the racefiles one at a time. Instead of using the check-box, right-click on the file name and then left-click SAVE TARGET AS. Before you SAVE it though, be sure to set the destination folder to C:\htr.
The trainer text file is called the 'Comprehensive Trainer Report'. Download that file for each track as you do your regular racefiles, and then click the [CTR] purple button in HTR2001 to view it.
The PP1 and PP2 use Cramer speed figures and do not contain Pace and PERformance ratings.
The Quirin style Pace and PER ratings are found in [PPQ] and I suggest strongly that everyone use that screen as well as the [FPS] for their PP's. The numbers listed in the PP1 and PP2 on the left are the CRamer race figures, the number listed after the BL is the horse's own figure as computed by Jim Cramer (similar to Beyer).
Read the thread on here "Questions about HTR2001". I answer 'Huguenot' about getting help and some recommended books on the various figures.
If you still have questions or are confused, send me an email or give me a call. I want to help.

When you download files one at a time you may have to rename them when you are done.
It is not unusual for the downloaded file to look like
AQU0311C.HTR.ZIP
or
AQU0311C.HTR..ZIP
Just remove the final period(s) and zip extension.
Has anyone figured out how to stop this?

I just did this and it worked. No more additional .ZIP
Open Window Explorer.
Click on Tools, Folder Options, File Types, New, enter HTR and click OK.
It should show HTR associated to your zip program (WINZIP).
Easier than having to rename all those files.
Of course, check to make sure that when you download the HTR files one at a time that you get them saved like AQU0311D.HTR.ZIP; you may not even have this problem if you don't have a Window unzip program.

I was having the same problem. I had to make another folder to keep all the races I wanted in and then deleted all the races from the HTR folder. I now keep a folder that I call March or whatever month it is so that I can only have 30 or so days in any one file. I download to that folder and tell HTR to open that folder. I was waiting for 20 to 30 min for HTR to start because it was loading all the races that were in the HTR folder.
Hope this helps.

I agree that the downloader can slow to a crawl if you have a ton of race files in the folder.
I am not the best person to give advice on this cause I normally end up downloading the whole month worth of files at one time.
I do a separate subdirectory for each month but start the folder names so they will be on top of the folder list, like:
C:\htr\10 Mar 03\
C:\htr\11 Feb 03\
C:\htr\12 Jan 03\
Of course there are other ways of doing it like C:\htr\0301\ for Jan 03.
It just doesn't pay to try and keep a years worth of race files in one folder.
With HTR2001.exe it is easy to change folders.

In the ppq what is the number before the horses age, the 2 numbers after the race condition and the 2 numbers before the race summary.
Thanks

Software Update
Quirin Pace and Speed Figs into HTR2001
Added a new set of PP’s to the HTR2001 options as well as some new buttons that I hope will
access things more rapidly throughout your handicapping.
The new QPP’s (Quirin Style Figures Past-Performances) feature the pace and speed figures
that were so popular in the DOS screen (5). The running lines have been redesigned to
include both the position calls and beaten lengths at four poles. Trip notes and related items
are included.
Race Pace-Performance (PER) figures
On the left side of each past-performance line - following the class information - there are two
similar numbers posted for each race, such as 098 102. This is the Pace + Performance rating
for the race itself. These race ratings are based on the fractions alone – no beaten lengths.
If the winner had gone wire-to-wire he would receive the same ratings, but all other horses
will have their individual figures computed based on beaten lengths parameters.
Race Shape Assessment (race strength)
The two letter tags (AA, FA, FS, etc) that follow the Pace and PER for the race, are the Quirin
race-shape designations. The strength of the ratings is compared to the normal par for the
level and then one of three letters is assigned to help you eyeball race strength.
A = Pace and/or Performance rating was Average for this type of race.
S = Pace and/or Performance rating was much slower than normal for the level
F = Pace and/or Performance was much faster than normal for the level.
If you see a “!” following the Race Shape it indicates a “key” or “highly rated race” for the level.
Horse’s individual Pace-PER ratings
These are the duel set of numbers on the right after the finish position. They represent the
horse’s own pace-PER figures based on his effort in the race. For example, 104 093 would
indicate a horse that was involved in a fast pace and slowed down rapidly late. 094 105
would be more typical of a closer that stayed off the pace and finished strongly. I strongly
urge you read the book Figure Handicapping by James Quinn that discusses using these
numbers in detail.
The Performance ratings (range 050 – 115) listed in HTR are not final time speed figures.
They are computed based on velocity feet-per-second. This methodology gives more credit to
horses that set fast fractions and faded or to closers that finished strongly despite a slow
pace. It also downgrades runners that appear to be finishing fast on paper but are actually
passing tired horses after rapid splits. The PER is an elegant algorithm that is not fooled by
deceptive race times or unusual pace scenarios that favor certain styles. You will notice far
less variance in the PER numbers vs. standard speed figures.

Maybe it's a Lexington thing. My downloads have slowed to crawl and I have dsl. I thought it was Netscape after talking with Ron, but then when I tried Internet Explorer, I still get the problem.
It took about 20 minutes to get a download, and I only download about half the tracks.
I think we are too close to the source with Equibase about 5 miles away and HDW about 15 miles away.

There is some new WarWorm that was released when the bombs started falling- that might be slowing things down-the other nght, I could not even go from one site to another.
It got better as of Staturday.
Today, everything seems back to normal.
