you're the ball.

Since I whined about my "bad beat triple" here last week, (my bolter, DQ and lost photo sequence) thought I would mention the other side today.

I like the 1A in the Philly 9th. He stinks. But the #1, the half of the entry I hated, sneaks into the photo. Somehow wins it, pays $29.80.

Hehehe. I am going to collect my winnings just like a good player would. Why not?

Gotta love that Carl.

Good for you, Carl. Even beat my jinx today @ Del.

I had a good day today because I couldn't watch the board & wait for 'my' odds. I hit 4 horses today that I wouldn't have bet had I been totewatching. It pays to be more lucky than good oftentimes.

Yeah, lucky is good.

Funny one for me in the MTR 4th Mt Ken, almost got real lucky to it.

I come up with a spot play on the #5 (twasn't hard, he was a +12 nESD), then saw you had the #2 picked, figured you and I have been footsing with a lot of the same horses the last week, so I bought a 2-5 ex box at the last minute, was paying over $200 both ways. Didn't even look at the #2's form. Did see that she was 10 years old, that was about it.

You know the rest of the story, but for lurkers yes we run 1-3.

(Well I never said I was the Louisville Slugger ALL of the time.)

Yeah, speaking of that I played one exotic ticket today. Tomacat split in that race.
5 3
9 4 8 2

Cost $16 and the Tri pays $550. And yesterday I bet the wrong horse. It wins for $14. Couple days ago I play P4 at HOL. Hit all 5 tickets. Someone..stop the madness...Think I might go buy a lotto ticket or something tomorrow..

Sounds great Glen. Buy your lottery ticket up in Canada, that way when you win a million it's tax free hehe.

Something to be said for making our own luck too though. I think this IMPACT stuff is real powerful mixed in with the old HTR, so we're "lucky" to have great data to work with. (Or we're smart enough to recognize a good thing when we see it, take your pick.) Using the IMPACT, I have managed to work ESB up to $2600 now from a hundred dollar deposit six weeks or so back. Would have loved to had this program going when I had a bankroll.

As for you Glen, think we have to face it, you're just getting GOOD buddy. I think that's great. You've worked on your "all around game" and it's paying dividends. And Kobe took 2000 jump shots a day, now both he and you are getting "lucky". Whatta couple of surprises eh?

One think I noticed for me, and a lot of the "writing horseplayers", Beyer, Cramer et al, mention too, is that this game for me is about holding my own until a day comes when I "get lucky."

As an example, I am happy with my break-even showing in our little race of the day here, I feel like I am in a holding pattern until I "get lucky". Hope to pop a $70 job off on a post soon. And if I can break even until I do, I am feeling quite good about it all. Then I will have "gotten lucky" with my posts.

Way to go guys!!!!!!! Some people say you make your own luck and some say it's better to be lucky than good...I think its both. Some days you can't understand why a horse loses and then some days you can't understand how a horse could win..or how the public could let him off at 35-1.

I know since coming to HTR my handicapping has changed dramatically. Most of it from the things I have learned from you guys.

One thing that has not changed..my exotic play is still losing. Hopefully will find the answer to that puzzle in LV.

If I could just get those 5 winning pick 4 tickets....:D

Carl, that is amazing!!! $100 to $2600. Adding Impact into regular HTR is like Mark McGuire adding Andro into his diet to help his swing!

Hurrikane, I don't know how your handicapping was before you got here but you sure are kicking butt now. That's what hard work does...And I know you have run some great numbers.

Aw Hurrikane,

You're our hero and benchmark buddy.

1) First you beat all comers in the fixed race t-shirt contest.
2) Now you're in the lead in the "pick your own/no rules sweepstakes".

Don't be sweating them pickey four/exotics things. "Do what you do", guarantee you are not going to tap out in this game taking a profit, and most of the "big stuff" is geared to single selection picking, so you are on great ground.

Carl,
I just realized what you said in you're post....someone that increases thier bankroll from 100.00 to 2600.00in a few weeks. wow! I don't think you need any heros buddy. Keep up the good work. Look forward to meeting you and everyone else in LV. Air will be under my feet at 9am tommorrow morning. Hmm...and it's 100 degrees in the shade thier today.

Hurrikane:

You are kicking it, as my skateboarding 11yo would say," You've been picking some SICK horses." The other day you said that you had a play with a 30% hit rate & a $17 avg. mutuel.
I thought he can't be doing that; that's a 2.55 ROI! But every day you seem to have a $15-$20 horse on the board. You worrying about exotics right now is like Barry Bonds worrying because he's not hitting any singles.

One thing I've considered doing is copying the daily races where I have a spot play horse run 1st or 2nd & putting that race into a seperate db for exacta/trifecta studies. Seems like a lot of work but might be worth it.

I expect Carl will pass that 8k plateau he was @ a few months ago & then never look back again. I did the same thing in Jan. when I hit a succession of $60-$100 horses & then got fairly rambunctious with my bet sizes & blew about 2k profit in 2-3 weeks. Next time I'll be just a tad more conservative.

I also want to compliment Glen on the post he did for Cliff on non-DB HTR handicapping. I've printed about 1/2 dozen posts off this board that I consider invaluable & Glen's was an instant classic. Like Carl said it's pretty obvious why Glen is so 'lucky' lately. Hope that 'lucky streak never ends.

Unfortunately I won't be in LV this yr. but I'll be there next yr. come hell or high water. BOL while you're there & sorry I won't be meeting you all. Hope the ESD+10's all pay $20+ while you're there, the cocktail waitresses are all lookers & the beer is cold....
