I have a spot play system I'm very happy with. It gives on average 3-4 plays a day across all tracks. On 2300 plays, the win% is 14%, the ROI 51%, and the average payout $21.30. On place bets, the success rate is 26%, the ROI 22%, and the average payout $9.50. I've been putting a bit more on place than on win (I don't like long losing streaks), but I'm curious how and why others might split their bet between win and place with this.

I'd say .50% to .75% of bankroll. 1% might even be kinda risky.

Bernie,

Sounds like a nice spot play!

I've seen ratios from 2/1 to 5/1 (place/win) bantered about on other boards. Probably depends alot on your total bankroll and comfort level. 5/1 could add up real fast if your win bet is $20.

Cliff

Bernie, I have a spot play that I use, however the payoffs are not as large as yours, I bet win and double my place bet.

Bernie, If I understand correctly, your 1st or 2d pick comes in 40% of the time...?

Howabout a front and back wheel exacta. At those roi's you should be killing them.

Tomcat,

Only a first choice here. It wins 14% of the time and places 26% of the time at average odds of 9.7 to 1 for the win and 3.7 to 1 for the place. The win ROI is just over twice the place ROI, but the consistency is much lower given the lower win %.
