Mike Mayo, a veteran HTR user from Dallas, has won the MGM Grand "heavyweight championship" for handicappers in Las Vegas. First prize was around $70,000.
I don't have complete details, but the contest was a one day affair held on Saturday and had a $3500 entry fee (!) and attracted about 40 very tough handicappers and tournament regulars - including Tommy Castillo. The format was $2 win and place - I believe they got 10 or 12 wagers. Mike's total of $128 must have included the $44 winner at HAW and one or both the of the $35 winners at HOL == all of whom were Fr1 or Impact plays. There weren't that many bombs at the major tracks on Saturday.
As the winner, he will get an invitation to the big NTRA championship tourney in Vegas next January. Congratulations Mike !
