SAR and DMR have free contests starting tomorrow (July 24).
www.nyra.com (SAR contest)
www.dmtc.com (DMR contest)
The "Summer Showdown" is the Show betting survivor contest at SAR, you must play everyday to 'survive' (pick one horse per day, it must finish 3rd or better to stay alive). First prize = $5000.
The DMR contest has a coveted prize = an NTRA Championship entry - so get serious and sign up for this one. You won't be required to play everyday - the rules are better: $100 on the designated race each day, bet it w/p/s however you want, including different horses in the same race. You must play 15 times minimum during the meet to remain in the hunt - be sure to read all the rules to stay alive if you can't play daily.
My opening day pick for SAR contest is PUZZLEMENT in race 7.
DMR contest pick is $100 to win on TRUE PHENOMENON, race 8.
Both contests have daily leader boards to keep it exciting.

On the DMR contest today they have 2 races do you have $100 per race or do you have to pick one race or the other? Can you spread your 100 on both races i.e. 50 in one and 50 in the other?
rules don't make this clear for me.....of course alot of things arn't clear to me!
duh the second race is for tomorrow....only took me all day to figure that out:D

Nice pick Ken a cool 660 points tied for first. I put my $100 on the 5 he was in the hunt down the stretch but they had to much for him.

Am 2 fer 2 at DMR and I think Hostility has a clean shot in here. Like the way they are spacing out her races as she appears to be moving forward on the Prat.....21 days between the first 2, 31 days between the 2nd and 3rd and now 41 days between the last and today....two works in 17 days should be keeping her on edge. I think she will move forward again. BOL!!
Maybe I should re-visit playing the west coast tracks...have always shied away from them.

If I had known you were picking this horse I wouldn't have bet. Then you might have had a chance.

Scratches wiped me out of SAR and Mystery Meat. You get stuck with chalk and have to eat it!
At DMR Thursday I hastily switched to ROAD TRIP in race-5 after they scratched CALL ME AGAIN
and got tagged with -100. You have to go to the "Refund" area first and remove a scratch selection. They do not revert your scratch to the favorite - which is good - you end up with zero points if your horse is scratched and you don't re-pick. I didn't know that and played a $100 on ROAD TRIP before reading the rules and realizing that you are debited the bet in the total if the horse loses. Would have been better off leaving the scratch and getting zero. Hopefully this was the case with the rest of you.
At DMR Friday my play is $50 wp #7 AMBER HILLS in race-7

Actually I think you are due, are you not? I guess the percentages are in our favor then, are they not? Good to see two of the other frontrunners drop out!

Whoa Nellie, Ken!
Guess it's time to go read the rules....I didn't realize that you are debted your bets! Glad I pounded on those first two days! Now I guess I need to protect that lead huh? So people who are placing bets are actually going in the hole every time they pick a horse that loses?? Can't make money that way huh?
Thanks for the heads up! I'm off to read the rules now I guess.
I still like my horse in this race though! Ain't gonna get no where near 8-1 on her though!

40/1 shot hit at DelMar in the 7th after the #6 horse wiped out the outside runners and was eventually DQ'd for his slaughter. If you had #7, 8, 9, 10 you were denied any chance.
Looks like about 15 people played the #2 $100 win and got the full 3600 points. One guy is already over 4000 points. Expected winner will end up with about 6,500 points. There are 40 days of racing left.
They do debit the total if you lose. View the complete standings and you will see about 1000 people currently with a total of -300! Those people are 4300 points behind the leader and will be playing the longest shot on the board in every race from now on. So if another 40/1 does hit, about 500 people will have it! Dynamics of the contest are completely changed. Question for the leader is: should he play conservative and try to hold his lead without losing any points, or should he keep plugging at longshots knowing that the next big one will probably put the contest away for him?

I'm thinking some of these folks are just taking the longest odds on the mlo to see what happens. They made good. But the contest is for 42 days.
Today.
see nothing to bet 100 on...will pass.

Saratoga Showdown ended quickly on Sunday - no 'sole survivor' they all got nailed.
Saratoga format is fun, but loses interest for most after being eliminated. And the outcome came down to scratches (stuck with chalk) for most players. DMR contest is far more exciting and competitive for handicappers.
Anthony DeRosa of Manorville, N.Y., won the $5,000 Grand Prize in Saratoga SHOWdown on Sunday.
A total of 7,186 contestants started the free online contest on Opening Day, July 24. Only 13 were alive on Sunday and all 13 failed to select a horse to finish first, second and third. DeRosa took the winner-takes-all Grand Prize according to the first tiebreaker: Most Winners. DeRosa, whose display name is "Thunderosa", was 11-0-5 during the first 16 days of the contest. Three other contestants had 10 winners.
The object of SHOWdown was to select one horse to finish first, second or third on each of the 36 racedays at the Saratoga meeting.
DeRosa, 30, is a financial analyst who has been a fan of Thoroughbred racing for his whole life. His favorite memory? Easy Goer winning the Belmont. He uses the New York Post to make his selections, and he stays away from layoff horses, off-form horses and horses dropping down in class.
A total of 10 people were eliminated on Sunday when favorite Kingsland ran fourth in the four-horse fourth race. Three people selected Kingsland as their Day No. 17 selection; another seven were represented by Kingsland when their selection, Imperial Gesture, was scratched. Two more contestants were eliminated earlier when Smoke and Fame finished fourth in the second race.
John Doyle, an IBM executive from Minnetonka, Minn., was still alive after the first 12 contestants were eliminated. His selection, Better Talk Now, was caught in traffic in the seventh race and finished off the board.
Belmont Fall SHOWdown will begin when the New York racing circuit returns to Belmont Park on Sept. 6. Fans can sign up for the free online contest on Aug. 21.
Previous winners of SHOWdown are:
1 — Christine Wiseman, a registered nurse from Brooklyn, N.Y., who selected a show horse for 34 consecutive racedays at the 2002 Belmont Park Spring meeting,
2 — Robert Heintz, a medical company salesman from Walden, N.Y., who selected a show horse for 29 consecutive racedays at the 2002 Aqueduct Spring meeting;
3 — Patrick Horner, a bowling alley proprietor from Rochester, NY., who selected a show horse for 25 racedays at the 2001 Aqueduct Fall meeting;
4 — Brian Marschall, an executive recruiter for information technology with the Cambridge Group from Fairfield, Ct., who selected a show horse for 28 consecutive days at the 2001 Belmont Fall meeting; and
5 — Steve Wolfson Jr., a high school teacher from Daytona Beach, Fla., who selected a show horse for 30 consecutive days at the 2001 Saratoga meeting.
