TC is on the road and hopefully will respond. But I am pretty sure he went w/ Sprint where he can use his cell phone and attach a device to his laptop for wireless internet.

Until others respond........My cell phone provider(U S Cellular) has assured me that I will be able to use my computer anywhere in the 11 western states that my plan covers.......(some confusion about when I am roaming outside my 11 state pasture) (except maybe to switch to thier "nationwide" plan ) First place is to contact (via internet) your phone manufacturer or the store where you got your phone........mine is Nokia they sell a cable to hook up some models......other models need a cable and a modem card...........I have not taken the big step of ordering the cable yet........Do have a friend who assures me that it works fine in Southern California......his only complaint is that when he wants to bid on something on ebay, it is best to pull over to insure that you don't lose your connection..........would think that downloading data files would require you to be sitting still............
One savings for me will be when I visit Reno hotels (Hilton for sure).....local calls, even 1-800 numbers cost you a dollar for the first 30 minutes "AND" ten cents a minute after that............on derby weekend I had a free room.........called home 3 times.......cost me $80........lessons learned.......Ernie

Hey Stuball..Massa can confirm that I am hi-tech challenged so I don't know how much help I can be.
My set up is working well with the only hangup being horribly slow download times. Yesterday it took me 25 mins to get 3 tracks. Also I don't try to use it while rolling...having enough trouble keeping this bitch between the lines as it is.
My setup consists of a Sprint PCS account and an Internet America IP account. Have a sprint sanyo 4700 cel fone and bought a standard voltage regulator to protect against generator belches and shutdowns. Thats it...sprint promises 56.6 speed by Sept. but for now it's 14.4
Hope some of this helps..

Hi, Stuball. Sorry for the late response... I'm sorta marooned in Indiana while waiting to check into a VA hospital to check out a lump under my armpit that may or may not be "something"...
As for connecting to the internet from your laptop in an RV: We do it through the Cingular nationwide plan (for about $30/month, you get 350 anytime minutes, and 3500 night and weekend minutes, and no long distance charges.) The downside is, it is shockingly slow. It will take you approx 10 minutes to download files for just one track. We use a Nokia phone, a PCMCIA modem card, and a special phone to card cord (costs about $100) to connect the two. We have also found that a cellular phone external antenna helps boost weak signals - and when you RV, you're always in fringe areas. Worth looking into as an alternative to what I have is Voicestream. They have much faster data throughput (fastest on the market) - but their coverage is spotty. As for satellite solution - there is a company (KVH) that sells what you need, but cost is approx $4000 for the satellite just for internet use (add another G for TV), and you have to shell out about $80/month, and you're limited in download size. Our budget can't stand it, but if yours can, that's certainly the way to go.
If you'd like to e-mail me privately, we've been on the road for over a year following the horses, and Bernardine and I love the lifestyle. We'd be happy to tell you about campsites we've discovered... and even try to hook up with you as soon as we get back on the road.
Wish you guys all the best at your HTR conclave in Las Vegas, and Tommy, I add my congrats for your latest success!

Hey Neil,
I am disappointed to hear you will not make the seminar next week. You were most
helpful to me at the Access class last year. It is my high hope that your "something"
turns out to be nothing of any consequence and that you and Bernadine can resume
you adventures. It sound like a blast even with the woefully slow download times.

Hi Neil Best of Luck on your tests...I tried to post a message before we went on the road for a few days and couldn't get board to accept the message so thought I would try later....Let us all know if our prayers were answered...and all is well. Congrats to Tommy C - may see you all someday at a tounament...I can always pad the purse..a little -- very little....lol.
Have a nice day !!!

Had biopsy in Indianapolis today - initial reaction from the doctors was that it was NOT malignant. Thanks to you all for your kind thoughts and words.
If further analysis doesn't turn up anything surprising, we're heading to Saratoga Springs late next week for opening week.
Best to all of you in Las Vegas, and at home.

Neil,
Glad to hear things are looking good! I'll be joining Cliff and Glen in holding down the fort here although I will be playing some Colonial Downs this weekend and next week as I am now on vacation. Been having a good meet there using HTR and will be sorry when they close July 23rd.
