Interesting that for the first and only time I can remember, Turfway isn't on the list of contest tracks for Kee's Dec contest: Aqu, GP, FG, Tampa, & WO.
Also interesting to read that for the first time this Saturday GP will be using a second finish line in order to card 8.5F races. However, as far as I could tell from a quick search, there doesn't seem to be any information on the GP site or anywhere else re where the starting gate and finish line for such races will be located.
Also, as many of you already know, on Wed the Beu "contest staff" sent past players an email indicating, without any explanation, that this year's 12/10 contest has been cancelled, but that they're nonetheless looking foward to hosting the contest next year.

The 8.5f will be 2-turns with the starting gate moved closer to the turn. They have basically divided the ½ furlong between the starting gate and the new auxiliary finish line. Considering the track is actually longer then 9f; all bets are off with their new measurements as well. (BTW: Sorry about the pic size; I don't know how to reduce it. :o )

Thanks Dan.
Who knows if people still accept the validity of the Pythagorean theory nowadays, but to someone who does it certainly appears that horses stuck in the outside post positions are going to be at a major disadvantage in these races.

You’re well beyond my ‘hypotenuse NJ public education with Pythagorean theory Mall. :o To quote the late Justin Wilson concerning the new starting gate position producing a post position bias…”I guarantee.” :)

Mall and Dan, thanks for the info!
Mel, let us know the turnout for the KEE event. Last weekend HAW was a big letdown despite offering 10 spots and cash, barely 100 total entries and many were previous free quallies. They expected double that. So they lost money on it for sure because HAW is not an NTRA members (cost = $20,000 for 3 spots). The 11th place finisher got an NHC spot. The reason was that the 3rd place finisher (a pre-qualifier) did not pay the $45 NHC Tour required fee ahead of time. When asked why he said he "didn't have the money"

Will do, and maybe someone who's going will report back after the Turfway contest the following day.
Based on what I’ve heard slow sign-ups is why Beu cancelled, although they might have jumped the gun, since after they increased the cost to enter a lot of players waited until after the Kee/Turfway contests to see if they needed to sign up.
A perhaps even crazier Tour membership story is the guy who is currently second with 12,675 Tour points. I heard at the BC that he had already won two contests before calling the NTRA to find out what joining the Tour was all about.

The note about the guy in 2nd is amazing. I assume you mean he won several events earlier than the FPX victories he shows in September otherwise it would seem contrary to both NTRA and FPX tourney rules to not have membership prior to participating.
If I missed out on a tour purse prize based on some waiver to the rules, I'd be pretty frustrated at the exception if granted.
If that were allowed, why would anyone sign up for the tour until you actually qualified? ;)

My understanding is that he didn't sign up because he didn't understand what was involved or the ramifications, that his first two wins simply didn't count, and that there was no waiver.

At Beulah today. It is lack of entries that caused cancellation.

There were a few stragglers and the final count was 218 entries, which included numerous htr subscribers, one of whom pointed out that the 5:30 p.m post was the reason they didn’t use Turfway.
I didn’t recognize any of the top four finishers.
Ken Kircher, who owns and runs nhcqualify, finished 5th, and he was followed by our Brian Feldman, who just missed qualifying when the 6-1 play he made in the very last race of the contest came within a short nose of running down the $98 horse that won FG10 and also dashed the qualifying hopes of a number of other players, including the player who was in second before the race.
Brian was in contention for most of the day after using a spot play on both of his entries to come up with the $95 winner of FG5, which along with the $81 winner of Aqu7 was one of only three cap horses in the contest. That fact was reflected in the winner’s total of around $136, which might be a new low for this contest.
With the exception of yours truly, everybody was headed to Turfway for today’s contest, and I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing them all the best of luck.

Good summary Mel, thanks. Excellent turnout as always at KEE. Tough beat Brian, better luck to you and everyone from HTR at Turfway.
