I have been seeing the code "W" in the TCLASS field for races at Delaware Park. I then noticed it was used in other races.

Is this a new effort to try to differentiate beaten claiming races? Why are these races labeled with a "W" instead of a "C"?

For an example of a beaten claiming race check out Race 5 at Delaware on September 21.

For an example of a normal claiming race check out Race 8 at Oaklawn on February 13.

There are way too many now to look at it as a "one off".

thanks,
Jim

Isn't the "W" based on a claimer that has horses that can NOT be claimed for various reasons?

In the example Oaklawn race, a horse was claimed.

Silver Edition claimed by TRAINER Allen Milligan

Jim, i thought the "W" indicated the race is a claimer, but SOME OF THE HORSES are exempt from a claim - not all. Examples included horses laid off more than 90 days or those shipping in from outside the circuit - this protects them in the conditions from being taken too quickly and scaring them off from entering at all.

You are probably right Ken. It just screws up my modeling. LOL!

BTW:

"W" = Waiver

W25 = a claiming race with a $25k for most horses, except those that have the "waiver", such as a horse returnung from a long layoff (180 days+) in California.

The Light Bulb in HTR2 will tell you if the horse is offered for a price or not. This can also help with OCL races to determine those being offered for a tag and those that are not.

Click on the LIght Bulb for any horse and on the upper left of the screen it will display "Claim Value =" if offered for a tag. If not eligible to be claimed, "N/A" will appear.

addendum = Field 190 HX4, doesn't this give you this information NJ?

I was thinking that Ken, but check out the 4th race at Delaware on June 27. The light bulb is a great tip!

#8 Dancensing has been out over 180 days and his claim price is N/A

But #6 Brew for the Band has also been out over 180 days and he is in for the $5k claiming price.

So maybe the trainer declares this as well. And it is a beaten claiming price as well.

Now you know I am going to ask for an export field for waiver horses now. You should have quit while you were ahead. ;-)

LOL Jim, nWAIVER, not a bad idea for next update :D

I think you can do it now though, by searching nCLASS = 2 for Field 190 = 0
