I smoked a hard drive this last weekend and need a replacement, I am seeking advice on a top drive manufacture with a low failure rate? any input would be helpful.
I am running older machines so I need IDE ATA interface.

I just checked at newegg.com and they don't have a great selection.
Maybe they make adapters to SATA.

Thanks for checking rick, you are awesome!
I run HTR on multiple machines and the one that failed was one of my older laptops that use a 2.5 bay drive, the drive I need to replace is a Samsung.
I have had problems in the past with Western Digital hard drives not lasting very long, my thought is to try and find a Hitachi, IBM or another manufacturer that might be more reliable, any suggestions?

All you can do is search.
If you are set on keeping that laptop running, you pretty much need to go with what you can find.
Do you have the disk to install Windows on a new drive?
Might be time for a new laptop.

Rick, you helped me make my mind up! I will throw a cheap drive at the old dell (I have the OS and drivers) and pick up a new laptop at the same time, I have been looking at the Timeline X series for about a year and YOU are going to make me pull the trigger! :D
