HTR2001 =
I'm going to hold off on bothering Rick with a new beta of the HTR2001 this weekend, and will post it on Wednesday Jan 23 - pm. Have several minor bugs to get at anyway, thanks to those that continue to provide feedback.
Our Contest =
Rick will announce the official winners of our contest on Monday, then an envelope with $500 will be sent to the the victors via overnight mail on Tuesday to the address of their choice. The free-month-on-HTR prize will start February 1st. Books will be mailed via Amazon.com to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each contest. Good luck to everyone this Saturday and Sunday, and remember, big comebacks happen routinely in handicapping tourneys, so keep your helmet on and shoot for the moon if behind.
Other Contests =
Big $$ SunCoast tourney is underway in Vegas as we speak ($1000 entry). TommyC is there promised to email me with news. I'll pass it along here when I get something. NTRA championship starts next week at this time and there will be plenty of news daily from that one via DRF.com and Las Vegas newspapers on-line. There are 3 HTR subscribers involved in in the NTRA final that I am aware of, will get their first-hand account for the Feb newsletter.

After Day 2 at the SunCoast tournament, Tommy Castillo is in the lead! Mike Mayo had two longshots today and is close on his heels in 13th place. Tommy is the defending champion at the 'Coast and it would be an incredible feat to win it again, just one week ahead of the NTRA championship. But does Castillo really need another $100,000? One more day to go there.
Despite the pressure in Vegas, Tommy says he is going all out to win the HTR tournament this weekend - full speed ahead - leave the dead behind -just win baby.

That is incredible. Although I do not use HTR that is a huge testament to the use of the software in the right hands. (Wonder if he also uses Puregoldedge reports?)
One thing for sure, if Castillo wins, that should dispel anyone who may have thought the first time was just luck. Reminds me of a write up I read on Lee Rousso many years ago after he won two big tournaments within 18 months.
Good luck to TommyC

Amazing for sure. JimG, Tommy doesn't use the puregoldedge, but he does spend a lot of time fine tunning that program. His tip sheet is geared towards finding high percentage winners. After all that is what most of the casual race players are after. Some overlays can be found with patience. Although I will say it does live velocity figures such as Ev1 which are very good for longshots. I can attest the above from first hand experience as that is how I got started on HTR. Thanks again TC.
What Tommy uses I'm sure he will tell you is not for sale. The man spends hours and I do mean hours preparing for each tournament. And even keeps a daily journal on his mistakes and how he can improve next time out. A true professional.

Glen: If TommyC was to give me a copy of what he uses I would probably lose a little respect for him. Anyone that has worked as hard as he has for success deserves it and should not share it with anyone. The pari mutuel game is too hard to give away winning methods.

I talked to him yesterday evening and he was excited to be in that position. He said he would have been thrilled to be in the top 20 going into the last day, so this was...
but then again he is doing this consistantly -- amazing
Amazing still he was concerned about having time to get his HTR picks done. Dam*, Tommy!
I can certainly echo Glen's comments. I'm not sure I have seen anyone who spends more diligence honing his skills or his program.
Lets not forget Mike Mayo, who even though he had a computer meltdown and thanks to some heroic by our resident superman, Ken Massa, who faxed stuff to Mike, is in 13th place going into the last day!

Is there a place online that shows the standings?

Hats off to Tommy C. He's my hero. Even if he gave me his program it wouldn’t be the same. A Stradivarius in the hands of a rank amateur is just a fiddle

He is on his way downstairs to play at the Suncoast.
I read him the posting from the board and he wanted me to relay to you guys how much he appreciated the kind wishes and thoughts.
He promised to respond when the tournament is over.
I told him that I really wasn't that impressed. I'm in the same position here today with the big tourney! Screw him!

Any word on the tourney?

Tom has emailed Rick, he is having trouble for some reason getting into the site. Oh, well.
Rough day for TommyC and the rest of the tournement players. Not many hits at all by reports. Did I say rough? How about going 0 for the day!
To prove the point that it was a slow day, he only slid to an eighth place finish while going
"0-fer".
Good news -- Mike Mayo gets a hit on his last play at the last race at Golden Gate for a fourth place rally beating TommyC by $70. Way to hang in Mike! But it also shows how tight things were this last day.
