I am going to hijack a thread from another board because I think this is an interesting question for all horse players, both young and old.

My answer was:

Angel Cordero, Manny Ycaza, Laffit Pincay Jr. are to me the three greatest riders that are retired because they always rode their horses through the wire no matter the conditions and finishing position of their horse and when Patrick Valenzuela retires he will be added to the list as the greatest four riders of all time.

These four are and were head and shoulders above all riders as far as I am concerned for the player that puts up his money and expects the jockey to get all he can and more out of his ride.

I think I could make a case for Pat Day. After he got himself straighten out, he seemed to always put his horse in a spot to win. He loved to come from off the pace in a speed duel and take the money.

Fun topic David!

• Julie Krone: Loved watching her ride and before her nasty accident at Saratoga she could REALLY ride. Not ashamed to admit it; had a flat out crush on her as a teenager at Monmouth. :)

• Craig Perret: Very underrated rider who rarely left town. Great hands and could break and nurse a front runner as good as any east coast rider.

• Fernando Toro: Legendary turf rider in California. A genius at saving ground and he owned the Hollywood turf course before it became fashionable to over bet him.

• Eddie Delahoussaye: Always known for his patients; he was a very underrated on the lead in routes. Great at teaching young animals to race and could get hangers to time their move like no other.

Chris McCarron, Angel Cordero and a sentimental vote for Randy Romero. It used to really tick me off when Shug would take Randy off a horse and put Day on.

I used to like Edgar a bunch for the way he seemed to try to keep his horses in the exotics even after the win spot was gone, but I'm not so sure lately.

Dan, I didn't know Delahoussaye had patients - was he a doctor or something?

Dan, you're the greatest ('cept for that Rays thing you have) - do you have a hard drive somewhere devoted to these jpegs you come up with?

Alas, poor NJ - they screwed up in the competition for big fed bucks for education by filling out their application incorrectly (http://www.newjerseynewsroom.com/state/oliver-wants-to-know-how-christie-administration-made-400m-mistake-in-race-to-the-top-application).

Wow to that article Henry and its exhibit ‘A’ for my failed scrabble career. :o

No; I rarely save graphics; I just use Google image and link the source location. I’m still looking for Eddie Delahoussaye in a hospital gown. :D
