Saw this on another board and checked it out, really liked it.
www.bigfix.com is free and will check out your pc for needed MicroSoft patches and updates. Any that are needed it gives you the option to download the correct update and install it.

When you first go there, download their client-server app. After it is installed it gives you some beginning fixes. Then click on "fixlets" that are appropriate for your system. Each one will give you more needed patches. Took me about four hours using dialup to download and install every thing needed to update win98. Probably take an hour in high speed line but well worth it.

Combine that with www.pcpitstop.com for hardware tuning and your system will be as good as MicroSoft gets. At FORD "quality is job 1". At MicroSoft "quality is job 1.1"!!

Hi George took your advice and went to the big fix not to bad time wise over a dsl.

One question I'm running explorer 5.5 Big Fix suggests that I go to explorer 6.0 I know Microsoft had problems with 6.0 when it first came out so I didn't upgrade. Is everyone on 6.0? If anyone upgraded from win 98 explorer 5.5 to 6.0 Is is working OK?

thanks

Mike,
the only problems we have seen at work is that some web sites load up REAL slow....I personally have NOT upgraded cause there's nothing in there that I don't already have in other apps...like Media Player or RealPlayer, etc.

well I always favor the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach so I'll stay with 5.5 a while longer.

Mike,
I too have been running IE 6.0 sucessfully except ..... Youbet web express sometimes does not work. YOu get to the list of tracks to select and it keeps refreshing that screen over and over. I've talked to them and they don't have a solution. I went the the CD version and all is oK. Don't know if it is a IE 6 problem or not.

thanks chuck and f4n,

I use UBET every day so the express thing is a concern. I use the CD but I go on express and copy the wager log every few day so I don't know that I want to chance it.
